This. There is no market of any size for BC football. BC is located in a major TV market, but if people in the market aren't interested it doesn't matter. (Unfortunately it did between 20 and 10 years ago when the last round of realignment was running rampant, but it's not important any more.)

BCs big bowl game against Nebraska was broadcast nationally on ABC except for in New England, where it was flexed to a channel known for Golden Girls reruns due to some unimportant Boston sports game being scheduled at that time (I don't remember which)

That should tell you everything you need to know about BC fandom

We should have beaten Syracuse and completely blew it, same with Delaware. Those losses still sting. We were fortunate to get out of Buffalo with a W. BC is struggling but they're not Ball State or FIU, and they definitely don't want to lose to us.

We have to play well and finish these games off, especially against whichever P4 opponents we face.

Exactly. Gotta get this win. The two blundered games to cuse and delaware make this game even more important. The record doesn't lie and UConn has to win especially given the SOS component.

Can't agree enough. Don't remember the last time I felt as crazed about a game as this one. Rivalry aside, this may be a defining game in what could be a defining season. Win it and the 2 losses=seasonal growing pains. Opens the door to a monstrous season. 5-2 sounds awfully good after 1-2 start. Go Huskies.

Money is an issue at BC. Why? It appears football makes money and men's and women's basketball as well as both men's and women's hockey break even or lose money. And, BC has a large number of sports (31) which is expensive.

I guess you could free up more money for football and basketball by cutting the number of varsity sports so you could view that as a management problem.
 
I don’t think they give out many, if any, scholarships to their Olympic sports. I expect most schools will start cutting varsity sports.

Yet, all the B1G has added is teams in big markets. Rutgers, Maryland, UCLA, Washington and a growing market in Oregon. SC brought the best of both worlds. B1G can add teams at reduced payouts. Both Oregon and Washington are at 50% shares. College football is competing with the NFL and the B1G if they expand want teams in big markets. Boston is the capital of New England.

That’s a great question for all of these huge state universities. At what point do they actually have to turn a profit? The athletic directors are woefully in over their heads.

Cut the rosters to 75, which would spread the talent out, abide by the salary cap and expand the playoffs to 24 teams. 70% of the teams in the current P4 are all on the same level. Most of them have zero chance under the current system to make a 12 team playoff.

You are wrong. They give out scholarships in most if not all varsity sports although some can be partial scholarships. Their fundraising arm (Flynn Fund) says they give out 272 full scholarships and over 350 total scholarships.

I'm pretty sure that Stanford has nearly all of their athletic scholarships funded through endowments that are specifically earmarked for that purpose. The incremental increases outside of scholarships are the only variables that would impact the number of sports they would be willing to sponsor.

Yeah, I’m going and I’m looking forward to it. This is a big game for us, regardless of BC having an off year.
