UConn Baseball Recruiting and Commitment Thread

Nice update on Mozzicato (w/ a bonus Jacob Wallace mention):

Has anyone been watching any of Mozzicato's outings? His pro stats suggest he has the stuff to keep rising, but major control problems. Is he all over the place or does he just need some fine tuning to learn how to navigate pro strike zones?

He's down to number 11 on KC's prospect list. Probably that numbers inflated just because he was a first round pick. They have an ETA for him reaching the big leagues in 2026

These are his stats from this past year as a freshman at Los Medanos CC of the Bay Valley Conference. He had the 6th best BA in the Bay Valley Conference. Looks like he has an amazing eye with a 44/ 14 walk to K ratio, and looks like he'll be aggressive when he gets on base swiping 31/33 bags this past year. Definitely an intriguing addition to the team. I also assume it will be for the 2026 season.

44 walks in 146 at bats is also a terrific ratio. Any time a batter has more than 10% walks in relation to his at bat total, I view that as a very positive stat ratio. He is way over 10%, that is for sure.

I also always like UConn getting another California JUCO.

It is possible I'm wrong, but I don't believe this commitment had been previously reported on this thread, and that is what I was reporting.

Joe Pitts twitter feed does have him as having committed to UConn baseball.

Matthew McDowell ('25) will be a P/IF. May end up as a P only, but they are going to give him the opportunity to do both.

A couple recruiting websites that I regularly look at list McDowell primarily at SS, but also mention him as a RHP as well. These recruiting websites are not always right and are not totally perfect by any means, so we will see what happens.

He is my nephew. His biggest upside is on the mound where he has pushed upwards of 93-94mph. UConn has said he can try both and that the game will determine whether or not he can do it. I think he ultimately is a SP. Last fall he struck out 6 over 3 innings at a perfect game event. They were commits to: Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, and LSU (x2).
