Kay picks up a couple of strike outs to close the 5th. UConn down 5-1. I wonder how long it will be before the Penders goes to the bullpen with Kay not being all that sharp.

T9 | Back-to-back singles from Yahn and Hill give #UConn a pair of leadoff baserunners. Connor Buckley on to pinch-hit.

GOODBYE BASEBALL!!! Vinny Siena hits a three-run home run to left field and#UConn cuts the lead to 5-4!#BleedBlue

UConn bats have slumbered until the ninth when a three run homer by Siena makes it 5-4.

Final.......................

They do make it close again, but no cigar. UConn loses 5-4. Losing these games with either Cross or Kay pitching is so demoralizing.

Saturday Results --- We dump 5-4, Houston beat Tulane 3-0, UCF beat USF again 2-1 and Cincy takes out Memphis 5-4 in 12.

ECU 10-7
UH 10-7
Memphis 9-8
USF 9-8
Tulane 9-8
UConn 8-9
UCF 7-10
Cincy 6-11

A win today would have been huge.

Game Notes
  • Bobby Melley recorded his 200th career hit with a third inning single, becoming the 16th player in UConn history to reach the 200-hit mark. He is the second Husky to reach the mark in 2015, joining Vinny Siena
  • Melley recorded a four-hit game, his second of the year, a day after a three-hit outing in game one
  • Blake Davey notched his league-leading 18th double in the eighth inning
  • Vinny Siena scored twice and leads The American with 54 runs scored on the year, including six this weekend
The Huskies and Pirates conclude their weekend series tomorrow afternoon in a contest moved up a half hour to a 12:30 p.m. start.

Hill gets picked off by catcher at first. Then Testani was picked off first by the pitcher but only because they dropped the ball he was safe at second. Then Sundberg singles him in. 3 errors already by ECU.
Is it me or our base running blunders getting worse as the season moves on.
Penders actually stopped a runner at third in the Holy Cross game. I couldn't believe it.

In the 1st inning, Tabakman got hit by a batted ball off the right knee that went for a single. Tabakman stayed in the game, and on the very next pitch gave up the homer.

ECU up 2-0 2 r homer in bottom of 1st.
Hill bases loaded 1 out single bobbled ball, men on second & third 2-2.

Hill doubled off second on a drive to center. Bad base running with 1 out because Yahn tags easily.

Still 2-2 ECU coming up bottom of 2nd.

Here we go again with the base running blunders. Already cost us a run. Where are you going Hill? Play it safe already, makes no sense what they are thinking at times.

Pitcher has been wild for ECU but Siena and Davey go down swinging at first pitch??

Bottom of the 5th and Nico Darras is already warming up in the bullpen. With no midweek games this week, we'll be seeing the mainstays in the bullpen soon.

Sure enough, Nico Darras is coming in to start the 6th inning.

Big 4 pitch inning for the ECU pitcher in the top of the 6th. Guys has not had great control but we let him off easy. Penders, tell them to take a few pitches already, make him work. 2 hits through 6 innings. Another dreadful weekend of offensive production.

Taylor made double play ball and Hill throws it into right field. Errors and base running mistakes continue to plague this team. Hill's bat has come around but his fielding continues to struggle.

Hill can be very, very good or very very bad in the field. Following his error Hill makes a very nice play to close the inning. Still, the damage is done, with a 4-2 lead for East Carolina.

UConn hanging by their fingernails to keep it close in this one. Ruotolo comes in and gets out of a no out bases loaded jam in the 7th.
