Men UConn Baseball 2026

Would be nice if Uconn schedules a midweek game vs Yale in New Haven sometime. Alumni and fans in southern Connecticut would appreciate it. Make it happen David Benedict.

The one thing that is super cool about Connecticut is that Jim Penders has the longest tenured staff in Division I Baseball. MacDonald has been elite and a mainstay for the Huskies, spending the last 14 seasons as the pitching coach for the Huskies. MacDonald is hard-nosed and knows precisely the right formula for success in that part of the country. <-

After being left out of last year’s NCAA Tournament field, Connecticut enters 2026 positioned to return to the postseason mix. Coach Jim Penders retains an experienced core while adding meaningful depth through the transfer portal, highlighted by a trio of players from Division II power Southern New Hampshire.

Righthander Austin Trumpour headlines the group after posting a 3.07 ERA with 80 strikeouts to 17 walks across 73.1 innings last season. The 6-foot-3 righty works from a high three-quarters slot with a quick, repeatable delivery and a fastball in the upper 80s. His cutter generated consistent swing-and-miss and gives him a reliable secondary offering as he transitions to Division I competition.

The Huskies also landed Nate Wachter and Jackson Marshall, both productive bats who hit 15 home runs for Southern New Hampshire in 2025. Wachter brings a corner outfield profile with strength and bat speed, while Marshall offers infield versatility and a power-driven approach.

The infusion of experienced, ready-made talent alongside an established core gives Connecticut the kind of roster balance needed to reassert itself in the postseason picture. <-

They likely will just go out for the weekend series. They already have an extended west coast trip to Arizona. I expect the season will start out in the east, probably Florida somewhere g8ven the series in North Carolina scheduled.

pretty sure they are in Arizona to start the season. playing in some round robin the first weekend then U of Arizona the following weekend.

No Florida trip this year.

Portland series is the start of spring break trip out west.

Consolidating what we know, per opponent schedule releases:

Feb 18 at Arizona State
Feb 20-23 (4 games) at Arizona
Feb 27-Mar 1 at UNC Wilmington
Mar 6-8 at Old Dominion
Mar 13-15 at Portland
Apr 7 at Bryant
 
This would mean we are not playing on opening weekend. Surprising but understandable for a team from the NE

This isn't a complete schedule. Just what is known right now based on releases from other teams. There's no official announcement of the MLB Desert Invitational teams yet, although a few teams that have released their schedules have said they are participating. For example, Nebraska, Kansas State, and Iowa.
