I stood next to him at a The Dead concert at Mohegan Sun several years ago
People around him were passing joints to us all first set and both of us declined - we talked some Celtics and UConn basketball and of course some Grateful Dead and he appreciated me staying sober
I didn't want to let him know my past history and I can't say that he hadn't partaken before he took his place next to me or during the break when he went backstage
It was different speaking to him in person vs his whacked out crap on TV
