UConn Announces Jason Candle as New Head Football Coach (Updated)

I like the way Candle left Toledo. Before Candle was announced by UConn as the next head coach, he had a team meeting to look his players in the eye to tell them he was leaving. Mora didn't do that. Granted, it was tough timing due to the Thanksgiving break, but Mora had met with CSU in Connecticut before the final game, so he knew he was leaving when he sent everyone home for Thanksgiving.

Also, I didn't like the Millen quotes, Mora's good friend, trashing UConn and Mora highlighting what he thought were the negatives of the UConn job.
Yeah, I don't understand this trend of coaches leaving on a bad note. It's hard on everyone. There is no need to make it personal or derogatory. the former coach and millen, not sure why they felt the need to go low like that.

Regarding pizza, I think we stick to what we do best in CT. Coach Candle's been around, I'm sure he's tried it all. I think it is our responsibility to feed him up the best pizza in the world. If he ever leaves CT, he can reminisce about how he had the best pizza ever and never went back - to whatever blocks of dough they serve in the mid-west. I mean, if it's a dealbreaker, then sure, find a local to buy some square sheets and make whatever he wants.

Detroit and Sicilian styles may appear similar but Detroit far superior. Might as well just open as many different style of pizza joints as is possible and call it the Pizza Capital of the World!!! Or.. was that name taken already??

As a Sicilian, I can safely say that you are off your rocker and that you've never tried real Sicilian pizza from a real Sicilian. By the way, I'm pretty sure that Stinger is Sicilian too, so... if you find a horse's head in your bed tonight... not my problem...

I've always appreciated how Geno gives real consideration to questions like this. Especially lately. That was a way better and way longer response than anyone deserved and it did a good job conveying how a lot of people around here feel
I think of all coaches of any team I've ever been a fan of, Geno has always been by far my favorite to watch talk.

Calabrese here, preach my southern brother!

Somehow our new coach thread turned into a quasi pizza thread, but Candle has to know that he hasn't experienced the rapture of great pizza yet.

Dan,

I'm guessing you no longer need me to send you any whiskey.

A man who has spent nearly his entire life in Ohio, doesn't know what good pizza is.

New Haven style, New York, New England (Greek), Sicilian, Cold Wedding, or even freaking Sabarro's. Just put whatever is nearby in front of him at it will immediately become the best he's ever had.

For sausage, send him to New Britain.

You're Sicilian?

None parlo Italiano.

I know quite a few individual words, can understand reasonably well if I spend enough time there.

When did you visit and where did you go?

I haven't been since I was 6 years old. The wife and I want to get back there next year if we can.

I should try to make that happen and get back in time to watch Candle's first undefeated season as the coach of UConn Football...

In 2006 my brothers & I inherited a condo in Northern Rome (my late grandmother's younger brother's place). I went a few times the first eight years, then every year until COVID (2020). In 2022 I spent a few days there to close the sale (I spent 15 years covering all costs on my own, it didn't make sense to hold onto it) and haven't been back since. I'll try to go again next summer.
