UConn and the 2025 NFL Draft/Pro Day

-> Sammis said ultimately that UConn’s reputation of producing quality linemen will ultimately pay dividends for both Lundt and Senn.

“The thing I tell the scouts with Chase is, ‘Look guys: Tennessee, Michigan, NC State, Maryland, Duke, he has played them all,’” Sammis said. “So not only is it 3,000 snaps but it is quality snaps. Not everybody we go against is quality, but no NFL teams can ding our guys like Christian Haynes, Chase or Val on a grade sheet for lack of competition. They have played against the best.” <-

I swear Sheffield had another year. Did I just imagine that?

-> Sheffield, 5 feet 11 and 190 pounds, spent five years at Purdue, redshirting his first season. He has one season of eligibility remaining, due to COVID <-

Shoot. I guess I was confused. Sucks, he really picked up slack when Bell got hurt.

What is an official 30 visit?

-> What is a top-30 visit?

Each year, every team is allowed to bring 30 draft prospects to their team facility for a visit.

While some call it the "top-30" visit, it's not only reserved for the top 30 players on a team's board. Teams do bring top targets in, but they also use it as a chance to get to know other players better and seek additional answers to lingering questions. <-

I’m sorry, getting gigged for “arm length“ is kind of dehumanizing.

-> “He’s got a bright future. He’s got the size, athletic ability, I think he could be really successful at a lot of places,” said Gordon Sammis, UConn’s offensive line coach turned offensive coordinator. “A lot of the NFL is getting the right fit, too, so I think he needs that. But I think with his preparation and how he works, he’s got a really good shot to be a longtime pro.”

Lundt, a native of Arlington, Texas, listed at 6 feet 7, 304 pounds on his NFL prospect profile, is widely projected in mock drafts to hear his name called in the fourth or fifth round in late April. Sammis believes he could play tackle or guard at the next level despite his height because of his short area quickness and his ability to bend. <-

-> “It’s definitely a big shout out to Coach Sammis and the work he’s been doing,” said Senn, a native of Austria. “Sometimes people will want to write you off, but Coach Sammis, when he came in here he took a good look and he trusted his instinct. He saw what potential people like Chase and I and Fortin had. It was definitely great to play for him and know that he gets the absolute most out of you.”

Senn was in Miami training for the Pro Day and is one of a handful of players who’s staying at head coach Jim Mora’s house. He plans on staying there for the next month since he can’t go back and forth to Austria.

“(Mora) just said the most important thing is to make us feel at home, and it’s been great,” Senn said. “Coach Mora changed everything. He’s the one who brought a winning coaching staff in, a coaching staff that cares about their players. He’s the one that lays the foundation day-in and day-out.” <-

Mora is just built differently:

-> *UConn’s NFL hopefuls Chase Lundt and Valentin Senn have been staying with the Moras. Last week, the coach found a towel draped over a pan and started to peel it back. “Coach, don’t,” Senn shouted. He likes to bake, and the dough for his zucchini bread was just beginning to rise. <-

-> Chase Lundt, UConn - The Huskies have been sending linemen to the league in recent years, as Matt Peart, Ryan Vandemark, Christian Haynes were in the NFL last season. Lundt, 6-7, 305, brings a lot of game experience, playing 49 games in four years, a Huskies mainstay through very bad times, as well as good. An injury sustained in the Fenway Bowl kept Lundt from fully participating at the Senior Bowl or Combine, but was able to work for scouts at UConn’s Pro Day in March. Various mock drafts have him going between 100 and 135 overall, a third- or fourth-round pick. <-

-> Others to watch - Among many state pro hopefuls are offensive linemen Valentin Senn and Chris Fortin, wide receiver TJ Sheffield, linebacker Tui Faumina-Brown, defensive back Rante Jones, all from UConn; quarterback Keith Ridley from SCSU; offensive lineman John Thomas, wide receiver Logan Tomlinson, DB Juan Rosario, New Haven, DL Dan Toatley, CCSU; DB Spencer Alston, WR Joey Felton, RB Tre Peterson, all from Yale. <-

Not to get over-excited, but Jelani Stafford's build really reminds me of Aaron Donald

AD coming out of Pitt = 6'0 - 285
JS coming out of UConn = 6'1 - 300

honestly if he honed his body, with his motor I could see him becoming a stud.
He'll fly under the radar so UDFA but raises tons of eyebrows during camp and pre-season. He could turn into something special.

On another note, way too many huskies with unrealistic hopes, have declared for the draft.
Is this common practice across FBS? just tonsssssss of declares? like how many of these declares actually make it to the pre-season? not even daring to ask how many make a 53-man roster.
i still think this about Jelani Stafford. hope i'm right.

general draft note

26 of 32 first round picks were from SEC/B1G

(exceptions 1 Mia, 2 Col, 6 Boise, 8 Ariz, 18 NDSU, 22 UNC)

-> In all liklihood, no one from Connecticut will get drafted in either the second or third rounds on Friday night. Chances are, the first possible one would be Chase Lundt on Saturday.

Lundt, an offensive tackle who played at UConn, is projected to go in either round 4 or 5 Saturday. The 6-foot-8, 305-pound Lundt helped the Huskies go 9-4 last season. <-
