Chris Jones wondering if Coe might come out of the weekend starting rotation, but points out a pitcher needs to show some production in order to take Coe's place in the rotation.

Not that the hitting is much to be desired but Coach Mac has to be losing his mind @ this point.

Bottom 5th, Sullivan strikes out the first 2 batters on his way to a scoreless inning after hitting the third batter. 7-0 Gauchos.

Top 6th, UConn offense goes down in order, first 2 batters with strikeouts. 7-0 Gauchos.

.-.
Bottom 6th, leadoff hitter reaches base on an error by Padilla. After a no out single puts runners on the corners, Sullivan comes out of the game. Mike Quigley takes the mound making his first game appearance this season.

A sac fly for the first out makes the score 8-0 Gauchos. After a single, a passed ball by Garbowski puts 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out. A 2 out RBI single brings in 2 more runs, the batter advances to 2B due to an error on Morton. 10-0 Santa Barbara going to the top of the 7th.

Top 7th, Daniels with a no out RBI double to bring in the first run (finally) of the game for UConn after a Padilla single. 10-1 now the score. Tammaro with a no out RBI single, 10-2. After a wild pitch and a 1 out walk by Studley putting 2 runners on base, a pitching change.

In all of this conference nonsense, I’d like to come back in my next life as a Big West athlete. Water polo or volleyball maybe.
Well, natural disasters aside, it is pretty out there.

Top 7th, UConn offense strands 2 runners in scoring position. 10-2 Gauchos.

Bottom 7th, M. Quigley walks the first 2 batters. M. Quigley comes out of the game. Freshman Charlie West takes the mound.

West walks the first batter he faces to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout for the 1st out, a walk brings in a run, 11-2 Gauchos. A 2 out single drives in a run, 12-2 Gauchos. Another walk brings in a run, 13-2 Gauchos going to the top of the 8th.

Top 8th, Dalena pinch hits for Malcom, Kron pinch hits for Simmons, and Minick pinch hits for Padilla. UConn offense goes down in order with Kron and Minick striking out. 13-2 Gauchos.

Bottom 8th, West with a scoreless inning leaving 2 runners on base, picking up 2 strikeouts, he has 4 strikeouts in this appearance. 13-2 Gauchos.

UConn pitchers have issued 9 walks tonight.

Top 9th, Daniels with a leadoff solo homer. Pinch hitting for Morton, Shpur gets a double before the UConn offense is retired. Gauchos win 13-3.

Wasn’t pretty, continue to struggle and it’s all elements of the game.

During the game last night Chris Jones said that with Santa Barbara having a lefty starting pitcher going in the game today, that he thought Shpur will probably get the start today in CF. That would not surprise me either.

Trip report:
1) interesting facility only seats around 1,000 all GA. I’ll post the view below seems like a nice park to hit at.
2) a lot of scouts looking at Ager the UCSB starter, I counted 7 guns behind home plate no Stadium radar guns but he was getting a lot of swings and misses only studley barreled one Against him.
3) early ABs they were good but couldn’t get timely hit …Malcom got jammed on that fly ball to left.
4) Other than 3rd inning Coe really got hit hard again, everything was barreled. Free 90 to leadoff hitter and that set the tone, ucsb gave 2 green lights on 3-0 counts that says a lot,
5) these teams are noticeably bigger than uconn and are more fundamentally sound (bad combination)
6) simmons - my view was that second inning leadoff double should have been cut off and the other ball to right center should have been caught. For anyone watching on tv I’d like their views on those 2 plays.
7) right now they are not at the caliber of these top 25 teams. Somebody has to make it turn. Louisville ripped off 7 straight I think, so it can change. Let’s see today what Gabe can do.

Figured Dalena would get some time in the lineup at some point, just a little surprised that he is in the lineup against a lefty pitcher.

Bottom 1st, Van Emon has a scoreless inning after giving up a 2 out double. No score.

Bottom 2nd, Van Emon has a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts, he now has 3 strikeouts for the game. 1-0 UConn. Van Emon at 37 pitches.
