why can’t Afhtim go 2? Hasn’t pitched in a week. Van Emon pitches his guts out and this happens.

Bottom 8th, Ellisen walks the first 2 batters, a no out RBI single makes it 3-2 UConn with runners on the corners. Ellisen comes out of the game. Quinn takes the mound.

Ellisen seems like a nice guy but doesn’t have a back-end of the bullpen vibe to me, never has

Bottom 8th, a double play but a run scores to tie the game at 3. Quinn gets a pop out to end the inning.

Top 9th, a leadoff walk for Daniels, he steals 2B and advances to 3B on a throwing error with no out. On a fielders choice ground ball by Broadhurst, Daniels is thrown out at the plate for the 2nd out. Game tied at 3.

No magic at play so far this year. Not making any breaks.

Bottom 9th, Gauchos with 2 singles off of Quinn to start the inning. A throwing error by Quinn on a pickoff attempt moves both runners up a base. Intentional walk loads the bases. Quinn gets a strikeout for the 1st out. Quinn comes out of the game, Afthim takes the mound to face a right handed hitter.

A walk brings in a run, Gauchos win 4-3.

Tough one. Guys who have been around and are stepping into big roles have to be better.
Gotta stick by these guys - it is still very early.

We had a similar start a few years ago and turned it around. 4-10 coming back east in 2021. Texas Tech swept us in a 4 game series. 2021 Baseball Schedule - University of Connecticut Athletics
Problem is, the Big East has improved greatly since then. Still, a lot of baseball to be played. I have faith in our coaching staff. The talent is there. They’ll fix it.

Hey @MarkyMark can you relay a message of your choice to the home plate ump from the Husky faithful? It needs to include “sucks” amongst other words.
Haha Morton almost got thrown out of the game . Wouldn’t be surprised to see Penders get tossed if situation appears. When you lose 8 of 9 need a jump start Frustration city

Good listen…

Yeah, certainly sounds like we are going to be seeing a lot more of Gabe Van Emon. As Coach Penders pretty much says, got to get the rest of the team going.

They need a win, badly. Can’t hit with risp and the lack of good AB (k’s) is killing them offensively. Maybe Tammaro drops to 567 range along with Morton to try and generate some timely hitting. I like Padilla/Daniels hitting top 2 followed by Studley/Broadhurst. Less overall AB for Tammaro n Morton but I think it’s worth the risk…Simmons and Dalena struggling so much has really hurt em

Do they consider starting an Ellison or Quinn or Schild on a Sunday and let Coe/Cooke be the long relief, middle relief, setup men and even potentially closing, throughout the season? Idk, but they need a few wins this week. Still can salvage an at-large if needed, but these next 6 are important. At the least Quigley/van Emon seem solid. Can Cooke close primarily? It would open up a lot having Aftim available where their currently having issues trying to figure out what they have. A lot of questions to have when you really need these wins this early in a season.
