UConn 2026 Outbound Portal Transfers (*No transfer speculation until announced/posted*)

Because believing it makes him feel good.

Welcome to 2026. Good luck to those of you who have most of your life in front of you.
Please edify how you think this makes me feel good. Pretty sure you and I are on about the same life curve and I also know DB pretty well. Just sharing my thoughts like everyone else.

If AD DB had been the one to push Jim Mora into the coaching portal, it wouldn't have taken multiple weeks to hire Candle. Stop with the conspiracy theories.

Why? Its a message board. Speculation rumor and innuendo are the Yards stock in trade. As with any post or poster that bothers you, don't read it/them. Have fun and Go Huskies!

If you have any inside information and would like to share it, I’m all ears and ready to have my beliefs changed. Otherwise, the speculation is absurd unless you think DB is an idiot, which I certainly do not. Mora took over a program that had become as pitiful as UMass over 11 seasons under 3 different coaches. Without a competent QB on the roster (with the possible exception of one and one half series over the course of a season) he managed to turn the program around into 6-6 with a schedule that required wins against a P-4 team for the first time in a decade, a Fresno State team that won the MWC and beat a P-4 team in its bowl game and a ranked Liberty squad coming off a win at an SEC school. After a bad year (still a good year by recent UConn standards) in which we lost our QB in game 2, he then put together 8-4 and 9-3 regular seasons, going 12-1 at home during that span, and won 3 of our last 4 against ACC opponents (1 on the road and 1 at a neutral site). All this while attendance was showing substantial rebounding.

The only thing DB would have been asking himself is how long can I keep Mora before retirement or he leaves. Do I think he’s such a great game coach that he was going to take this program to a ranked level? Absolutely not. Am I saying he was the right guys for Oregon or UW? No, I didn’t say that. But he was succeeding on a high level that no one would have thought possible the day he came here and still hadn’t had a chance to play guys he recruited out of high school for their redshirt senior seasons.

Mora was a true professional. Probably the first one we have had on the sideline this century. He helped us and we helped him.

But let's make this clear. Football is his profession. Hiking in the mountains is his love. Benedict knew this. The Rockies or Sierras were always in his future. Anyone surprised by Mora leaving wasn't paying attention. He made the first decent parallel move that got him to 5,000 feet above sea level. Break ups in college coaching are always messy. This was no different.

Candle will get his honeymoon. Even red pants had one. But if you want to see the future. Candle is a midwestern guy. He likes his land flat. Success at UConn makes a move to Michigan State or Purdue much easier. Otherwise he could have been a Toledo lifer. We can get all upset if the B10 comes calling and he goes. But that will only come with UConn success and I for one would enjoy that immensely.

Do we know for sure that Candle has purchased a home in CT?
Bought a home in about 30 days since being hired? The Candles with kids potentially still in school in Ohio?

Whoa Nellie, suspect it’s unlikely Mrs Candle busy with 3 young children, managing a household and move prep in OH, and a coach sort of busy with keeping and recruiting players, adapting to new environs, and being a dad at a distance search for and close on an out of state home in a month. /s

As sad as I am to see him go, I'm really happy he gets a chance to prove himself at a B1G program. Hope he and Big Ben kill it there next year and both get drafted
I wish I could share your positivity, but I’m honestly not gonna pay attention to transfers once they go to another school as much as I’ll miss Edwards. Hands go off when you leave imo

I'm kind of disappointed for Cam as I thought he would end up at a better place, but the NIL is good. Michigan St. is in rebuilding mode and Fitzgerald had lost his fastball at Northwestern where he went 1-8 in the Big 10 in 3 of his last 4 seasons. And, he had 1 RB drafted in his 17 seasons at Northwestern.

Highly disappointed Cam Edwards left for MSU. I guess the NIL must be good, and UConn wasn't going to match. I hope coach Candle can land some really good RBs.

We are looking at a brand new team this upcoming season.
I’m disappointed as well. Figured that there was a good chance that Cam would transfer to MSU or TCU.

I’m now starting to get the feeling of whiplash between the Toledo transfers coming in and our players transferring out. It feels like everything was nuked and even in spite of the coaching change, we could’ve retained more than what we currently have.

I have promise for these new players and staff, great names, but I’m getting a disconnect here because of the lack of continuity.

Back to the topic @ hand:

Sparty pipeline…

This one stings to me. A CT native that I’ve posted for years here I thought would be drafted. A great story - born and raised and through to the draft all CT based. Would’ve hoped we ponied up NIL for him here.

Jeremiyah Love could have transferred in and I would still hate this.

I don't think it's so much that Chin (by the way, love your new avatar). Our ex-coach was renting while at UConn, which is definitely not a problem, but his Twitter feed showed Idaho as his location for the 4 years he was coaching UConn. Yet as soon as he takes the CSU job, his Twitter location becomes Fort Collins (Col). What the actual hell?!?! Like Kirk said in The Voyage Home, "No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space". Ex-coach didn't really want to associate living in CT as being a CT resident. Meanwhile Coach Candle changes his Twitter feed to reflect Storrs almost as soon as he joined the staff, no apparent problems associating with being in Connecticut. Candle can rent, he doesn't have to buy nor retire in CT, but the perception is what people gravitate to...here perception is that our ex-coach only worked in CT while Candle will seemingly live full-time in CT while working at UConn. I tend to read too much into things. ^_^

I'm much more aligned with those who take issue with how Mora's social media accounts were managed, and are managed, than I am the housing issue folks.
