UConn 2026 Outbound Portal Transfers (*No transfer speculation until announced/posted*)

Hard to imagine that each kid has met with Candle. Almost feels as though a blanket statement went out to returnees indicating their spots would not be secure. Who knows? Wonder how much will come out about the “ Transition Story”?

I think it’s much more likely that this is just the new norm. A coach changes (or not) and, as McDonald said, they “want to test the waters and see what’s out there.” As much as it saddens me (as a fan) I gotta believe I’d do the same thing. The entire regime has changed and everything they were committed to (coaches, teammates, culture) is gone. The only thing that remains is the school name and that’s secondary to these kids unless UConn was their “dream school.”

You go to work for a company that requires you to move. You take the job because you love the CEO and management team in place. You develop a relationship with them. You wake up one day to find out they’re all leaving. Do you just wait around and hope for the best, or do you think, I need a Plan B?

I understand your point. IMHO, it’s still a crapshoot unless they’re going to follow Mora to CSU and in rare cases Sammis/Wilcox to TCU.

I have a feeling our QB room would have been the Toledo QB room if the coaching carousel didnt visit Storrs.

As a UConn FB fans specifically and a College FB fan in general, l am dying to know the story of how the 2026 roster is being built. We have vested interests in the kids that were on the team this year as well as the new kids Candles staff will pull in. Whole deal is just fascinating.

Do people not understand that there has been a coaching change?...will there be players that portal every year? Yes. Will there be 40+ players portalling every year? No.

Colorado aside, the teams with the most players in the portal are and will be teams going through a coaching change.

These players are being advised for the most part by agents/reps that are not qualified. Unfortunately, it is out of control across all of college football in the end things will need to change or it will implode.

In some cases sure.

But there also the players that Mora told have a spot at CSU. And then there are the handful of players that have legit power interest. And there are the players that were walk-ons and got some experience and now want legit playing time at smaller schools. And there are the players are seeing the Coordinators hired and don't see a scheme fit, perceived or legitimate. And then yes, there are some players that are being encouraged to enter the portal by "agents" that have zero experience.

While I don’t disagree with what you are saying and that this mass exodus to the portal is a coach change result, it makes me wonder if Candle hasn’t reached out to them or why they aren’t giving him a chance. I get players have loyalty to coaches who recruited them but for a whole team to basically leave is ridiculous. I can’t imagine Candle hasn’t reached told these kids that all of their spots are up for grabs. I’m not knocking Candle at all as I’m sure he’s doing what he can. I just don’t understand the mindset of some of these players who started/played in some games last year and were probably in line to start this year. Why would enter the portal unless told to by the incoming coach? None of the OL players who played part of the past season are good enough to be looking for better offers at this point of their career. After a year of starting, I could understand improving and then looking. I just don’t understand why they all flee when a coach leaves. The new coach can’t bring in so many good players that you, the returner, wouldn’t have a leg up on starting.

They want offers and NIL. It’s much easier to make a deal when you have other offers and options to use as leverage. Many of these guys know their worth and weren’t getting it. This will help them get what they deserve, be it from UConn or another school. Also, I’m sure we have some talent that hasn’t seen the field. It’s pretty hard for Candle to evaluate those guys because he never saw them in practice. Those guys may have value to Mora and have no value to Candle.

Rhode Island is a great school. There's a rumor that they might join the FBS soon. Heard it on a YouTube channel about FCS moving to FBS. The person said that RI to the MAC.
Why not RI could smoke UMass in the MAC. RI could fit into that conference nicely.

I think any employee needs a Plan B and a plan C. In business I have seen hundreds of loyal employees let go. Loyalty is for suckers. Life is short, negotiate your best deal.

Here is a Question. How come we have 41 players in the portal and Toledo (with a coaching change) has 6?
