Looking back at the players that have moved on from UCONN over the past couple of years
no one really stands out for their on field performance. Most have struggled to get playing time.
I guess the saying the grass is always greener on the other side rings true. I feel bad for these kids.
I lived through a coaching change as a player. I went home on Dec 18 and when I return to the campus
on January 5 and there were already 20 junior college transfers enrolled for classes. There was no NCAA limits on scholarships the total recruiting class was 105 players and 205 player on the first day of summer camp. There was no portal or NIL and that situation was total chaos.
Keelan Marion, Nate Carter! Justin Joly, Langston Hardy, Cam Ross

I think that all stems from where we were in 2022, that season was the first bright spot for UConn football in years and Rosa was a big part of the success that year. We want him to do well and think of him in probably higher terms because of where we were then.
He’s been nothing but a true blue, hometown Husky from day 1. He has given us his 4 years of his college career and he needs to go find his success. I don’t think there is any person here that hates Victor. If they do, they have their own issues. If I was him, I’d leverage his situation and head to an Ivy (not sure he can at this stage). He’d be great, get his reps, and it’s a viable path the the NFL if he tears it up.

Anybody else thinking all these guys are getting phone calls from Colorado?

He has a whole roster to turn over, all his guys stink. He needs numbers. That would explain all these bench warmers, as well as the obvious targets.

For many of these kids, the portal and moving to a different school is a hope they will find PT where there is none here. For others, it’s the promise of money and playing time. Maybe they know that they’ll need to compete for PT but they can’t pass up the money because they know the NFL is a long shot so why not get what they can now. I can’t blame them. However, you gotta think that somewhere inside they have to be wondering if standing on the sideline for the money was worth it when they could be starting and making less. I don’t know the answer tbh.

Looks like CSU has 25 +/- in Transfer Portal.

Just as likely some of these Huskies have been put up for adoption as they have been told they have been/will be recruited over.

With the one short portal window, do you even have time to load up half a roster like it looks like we have to do? At some point it has to be a bird in hand doesn't it? Previously there was more time and windows to do this. I hope he hasn't been encouraging more, although the end result is the same.

If he has been, hopefully he has a ton in the portal at Toledo he is counting on. Do you have their numbers in?

Toledo currently has a dozen +/- in the Transfer Portal and growing each day. There are also at least 3 previous Toledo Commits/Decommits who have new UConn offers. Plethora of moving pieces.

So out of this group who is better off regarding playing time and on field performance than if they had continued here. Marion had 20 some catches with Miami last night which is now his third school. Carter is with the Falcons as a free agent he rush for 499 yards at Michigan State in 2024. Ross is on third stop and had a fair year at Virginia this year. Joly never had a better year than his second season here.

They should always expect to be recruited over if they play for a halfway decent program.

Joly had 661 yards and 4 TDs last year for NC State, which was 83 yards more than he ever had in a season here. His 4 TDs that season were exactly how many he had in 2 years here.

Marion had way more than "20 some catches" for Miami this season. His stat line was 49 catches for 626 yards and a TD this year. Both are substantially better than the 28 catches and 474 yards he had in his lone season here. The only thing he did better while here was catch TDs (5 that season vs 1 this year.)

Langston Hardy had about a 50% increase in his total tackles this year, and had twice as many sacks for Wake Forest this season (7) as he did for us last year (3.5)

Nate Carter is in the NFL. Kind of tough to knock his decision making when he got paid more to be at Michigan State and is now playing on Sundays. Even so, he still had 1297 rushing yards and 9 TDs over the course of 2 seasons at Michigan State. It's not like he was unproductive whilst there.

I find it funny that you kind of threw Cam Ross a bone and said he had a fair year, when he is quite literally the only player on that list you can point to that fits your narrative. 53 catches, 543 yards and 2 TDs for Virginia this year vs 60 catches, 723 yards and 4 TDs as a freshman here.

After an incredible three weeks here at State U, I’ve decided it’s time to take my talents elsewhere and enter the transfer portal. First, I want to thank the fans for the deafening silence every time I dropped a pass; your lack of expectations really allowed me to grow as a person. To the coaching staff: thank you for the "constructive" 4:00 AM film sessions where you reminded me that my high school highlights were a lie. While I deeply value the free Gatorade and the degree in "General Studies" I haven't started yet, my heart—and my agent’s Twitter DMs—tells me that my true home is whichever school offers a slightly more luxurious locker room and a NIL deal with a local car dealership. I am 1000% committed to my next journey, or at least until a better offer comes along in January

Respect my decision. No interviews (unless you have a check)

Looks like some of these portal entries are being done to clear up scholarships. Anyway hopefully we start to see some replenishment today.

I mean he was a walk-on. Did he expect guarantees or playing time? PWO is still a walk on. Especially at kicker where we were well established. If he didnt realize he was a long shot at best, thats on him.

It's also not like he suddenly had to pay for the semester.

So what you are saying is we become Toledo East?

Reviewed the Portal schedule. Ends 1/16. Signings can take place after Jan 2. Does signing period end 1/16 or continue until athletes find a home?
