Garbo is just not seeing the ball tonight. I would sub him out for Hyde if this goes into extras after his next at bat.

Top 9th, Willis hits the leadoff hitter and walks the next batter. 2 runs score on a no out triple to give Xavier a 4-3 lead. A sac fly makes it 5-3 Xavier.

Willis comes out of the game, Afthim is coming in.

Like watching a Red Sox game with terrible late game pitching and too many LOB

Monday morning quarterbacking will be asking where Afthim was today.

Thing is with the UConn coaching staff, they have always stick with their closer late in a game pretty much no matter what happens. Oh well.

The Monday morning argument to close with Afthim instead of Willis would be a lot more compelling if Afthim came in pitched awesome. I wonder if he is a guy who is not as sharp on back to back days typically and that is why the staff has generally avoided that for him throughout the year.

Top 9th, Afthim loads the bases on 3 walks with 1 out. Afthim comes out of the game. Nowak coming in to pitch.

This makes sense to me. I do wish we didn’t use him in a 10-1 game if that is the case, though.

Top 9th, a ground out for the 2nd out brings in another run. 6-3 Xavier. A single brings in another run, 7-3 Xavier. After a wild pitch, a fly out ends the inning. 7-3 Xavier.

Brutal inning. We also hurt ourselves in prior innings by failing to put up crooked numbers when we had the chance.

Need the first two runners to reach to have a prayer.
Exactly, we couldn't have asked more from our pitching staff this week. They were excellent. It was our offense that let us down. Should have had them buried in this game. Our offense is what concerns me right now, we are leaving far too many runners on base.

Bottom 9th, UConn goes down in order, Xavier wins 7-3 and takes the Big East Tournament.

Tough loss, but there are still games to be played.

Oh well. Win a regional and this will quickly be forgotten. Winning 3 in this tournament likely guarantees us a 2 seed.

At least it looks very probable that UConn will get an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

A positive from this Tournament is that UConn did get some quality pitching that it had not been getting, especially from some of the starters. Let's hope we can see that again, along with the return of Ian Cooke and Devin Kirby. That would help quite a bit next weekend.

The bright side is the BE isn’t a one bid league this year.
