A big part of UConn's success over the regular season has been tied into the weekend starting pitching. Austin Peterson, Pat Gallagher, and Enzo Stefanoni have for the most part pitched very well, and have not missed any starts during the regular season. Now there is a chance that Peterson might miss his start in the Big East Tournament due to his foot injury, so that has to be a cause of concern.

The 5-foot-11, 180 pound Smith, a three-sport athlete in high school in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, brought versatility and durability to UConn, starting 55 of 56 games as lead-off hitter and second baseman. He’s posted a .412 on-base percentage with 20 steals in 24 attempts and 55 runs scored. He made only seven errors all season, a .990 fielding percentage.

“This kid just wants to get better,” Penders said. “And he’s using this spring as a launching pad to improve his skills.” <-

The Huskies’ ERA, 3.48, grew after they allowed 33 runs in three games in Georgetown’s hitter-friendly park, but the team has a huge run-differential at 455-231. <-

I really want to make a statement versus Georgetown. They knocked us around it at their place.

Dang. I needed the 2:00 start time in order to have a chance to watch. Oh well.

Too bad our baseball, softball and other Olympic sports aren't on ESPN+. They do a pretty good job of covering the games. It's much easier to watch C-USA and MAC baseball than it is to watch Big East baseball. Who the heck wants to subscribe to FloSports??
