Bottom 3rd, Coe gives up a solo homer to lead off the inning. 2-1 Auburn. Coe retires the next 3 hitters, picking up 2 strikeouts.
 
Top 4th, Broadhurst gets a 1 out walk, but the next 2 batters strikeout. 2-1 Auburn.
 
Bottom 4th, Coe with a scoreless inning leaving a runner at 2B after a 2 out bunt single and a wild pitch. 2-1 Auburn. Coe at 55 pitches.
 
Bottom 5th, Auburn with a leadoff triple. Sac fly for the first out drives in a run. 3-1 Auburn. After a 1 out single, Coe comes out of the game. Tom Ellisen takes the mound. Ellisen gives up a 1 out 2 run homer, 5-1 Auburn. After a walk, a double play ends the inning.

Top 6th, with 2 out and 2 runners on the base (singles by Studley and Broadhurst), Malcom pinch hits for Dalena, he strikes out. 5-1 Auburn.

Minick moves over to 1B, Padilla takes over at 3B.

Chris Jones speculating that Broadhurst may get a start at 1B in place of Dalena in the second game of the doubleheader. We'll see what happens.

Broadhurst has 2 hits and a walk so far in his first game of the season, and Dalena has just had a tough time at the plate.

Dalena had a rough summer, too, correct? May be that his swing is just too loopy to make consistent contact at the D1 level. Unless he adjusts.
 
Top 7th, an infield error lets Minick get to 2B to lead off the inning. Daniels gets hit by a pitch to put 2 runners on base. A double play takes a lot of steam out of this potential rally. A scoreless inning for the UConn offense, 5-1 Auburn.

Yes, Dalena had a tough summer offensively playing for Mystic of the NECBL. Made me wonder about Broadhurst possibly getting some playing time at 1B this season for UConn.

Top 8th, UConn offense goes down in order with 2 strikeouts. 5-1 Auburn.

After a 1 out walk, Ellisen comes out of the game with 2 runners on base, Cinnella takes the mound. A 2 out single drives in a run. 8-1 Auburn going to the top of the 9th.

Top 9th, a scoreless inning for the UConn offense after a leadoff walk by Broadhurst. Auburn wins 8-1.
 
Quick notes from Game 1 based on Jonesy's call (no visual)
1) Broadhurst back and productive good to see
2) Were able to get guys on base, timely hitting absent. Auburn triple sac fly run scores easy stuff..productive.
3) Baserunning error (odd one) Garbowski trying to go 1st-3rd in first with 2 outs and Broadhurst coming up. If Garbowski can't go in standing up he can't try that.
4) Last year it was Ben and Dom at 1B/3B. Being realistic that wasn't being fully backfilled. But even on an absolute basis to get nothing out of Minick and Dalena is crushing for this offense. They have left a small village on the bases this year. Once Padilla is healthy I think he's the 3B I don't think Minick has done enough to hold 3B. At 1B when Luke is comfortable with the wrist they can make that move. My guess is Dalena's confidence is very low. The last AB at Cal was a no-confidence AB. Now he's not even making contact.
5) Coe seemed to get hit hard and the OF bailed him out too. Ellisen came in again and allowed the HR to give Auburn separation then had a nice stint then got dinged again. Didn't blow the bullpen out if you want a +. BTW this game was a walk in the park for Auburn. The total lack of timely hitting puts zero game pressure on Auburn. Easy stuff.
6) Another positive - the game was a tad over 2 hours. quick one.
7) As Jonsey said somebody needs to step up with the timely hitting. In a bad place right now. Need a clean baseball game in all 3 phases. Let's see what Cookie has.

Broadhurst with a 1 out rbi single driving in 2 runs, 2-0 UConn. Morton follows with a double to put 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out. Garbowski with an RBI groundout, 3-0 UConn. Malcom follows with a 2 out RBI single, 4-0 UConn. Daniels follows with a 2 run homer, 6-0 UConn. Pitching change.

Have to wonder if Cooke will remain in the weekend starting rotation. Chris Jones was speculating on that before the game started if Cooke didn't do well in the game today. Chris Jones is now speculating that this is an opportunity for Van Emon to earn a spot in the weekend starting rotation.
