So what were some doubters saying about us not having any bigs and how that would burn us? Betts scored a bunch of points but had to work hard for them. And both Jana and Sarah each had more rebounds than Betts. Pretty darn good.

Frankly, I'd rather be playing Texas on Sunday. S.Carolina must be salivating for another
shot at the Huskies.

But if we shoot like we did tonight the Gamecocks won't have a chance. ( I'm taking it
for granted that we will play well on defense)

I watched a couple highlights reels and one thing that leaps out of the screen is how difficult the inside-out game Sarah makes possible is to defend. She forced Betts and Dugalic to cover her on the perimeter, which had them in uncomfortable positions. Barker tried to guard her with no better success.

Sarah’s presence doesn’t just enable the interplay with Paige, though that’s really awesome. Her presence on the court also impacts Azzi’s play, as well as the three littles and Jana and Ice too. A big who runs the court like a guard is a joy to watch.

During the recruiting, her dad said Sarah didn’t want to be stuck down in the post all the time. Well I think Geno took that to heart. Sarah plays all over the court on offense and defense.

Paige first made her national presence felt when she scored 30 in a win over SC as a freshman. As a sophomore, Paige & UConn lost to SC in the NC. Now, things have come full circle. It will be UConn vs SC on Sunday. Paige's last game as a Husky. All of us are willing her & UConn to make it happen.

The difference between this UConn team and the one from her soph season is UConn is mostly healthy, have a talented cast (Sarah + Azzi) and playing a snarling and swarming defense.

This team is on a mission.
If I remember correctly UConn lost Dorka to a broken wrist in the Final Four and they missed her in the Championship game.

Injury was in the Elite 8 win over NC State. The semifinal win over Stanford was a rabbit out of the hat, the final a bridge too far.

As an old, old Wrestling coach, in the 4th quarter I was screaming at the TV "Keep scoring get over 30 points don't let up! More, score more, not enough!"
UConn sent a message to SoCar tonight that we beat you by 29 points at your place, ending your 71 home win streak and tonight we destroyed the #1 seed in this tournament by 34 points so be very afraid for what's coming on Sunday!
SoCar can say all the right things, but when the players and coaches put their heads on their pillows tonight and tomorrow night they know what the potential for them to realize!
UConn can play BETTER than they did tonight!
They will watch the film tomorrow and the coaching staff will bit-h and moan about ALL the mistakes the players made and they better turn it up a notch! And their veterans will guide the puppies to focus for 40 more minutes and bring the 12th home!
There were tears in my eyes as the clock wound down!
So proud at what they've accomplished so far and what is the potential to come!

Demolition Derby

Like I said a game or two ago
UConn has just too many weapons,

If Paige has a shooting off night (the rest of
her game was spectacular)
Someone else steps up...
Imagine if she would have been on
They would have won by 50

Is this the best defensive team that UConn has put on the court?...Perhaps...with under a minute to go...there was no letdown...What a buy in...
It's been a while since the largest lead of the night was at the end of the game for the Huskies!

Great work by all tonight! Now to do it all again on Sunday from 3 p.m. to just short of 5 p.m....

Go Huskies!!!

Some thoughts on the UCLA game:

  • Some of the dimes UConn dropped tonight were unconscious. Kaitlyn had a couple of beauties and Paige’s incredible “slap pass” to Kaitlyn on the fast break was something I had only seen done before by Larry Bird.
Regarding that part of the OP's analysis: I mentioned it in chat, but might as well mention it here:

I have now seen this type of "slap pass" three times, once by Walton, more than once by Jason Kidd, and now once by Paige. VERY select company!

The ones I saw Jason Kidd do were all during his high-school career, and all seen live and in person. I was lucky enough to see Kidd play some 70 high-school games.

If Paige starts doing this kind of thing with any sort of regularity, just go ahead and make her WBNA MVP every year she plays, then put her right in the Hall the moment she's eligible.

...and Geno, CD, and Company are THE BEST ever on two day turnarounds (16 straight wins in the elite eight, and 11 Championships in 12 attempts)!!! The desire to win, and teamwork of this edition of Huskies is without compare.

I like them to cover whatever point spread that the so called "experts" come up with against the defending champs, and the third #1 in a row to be "underdogs" vs. the "#2" Huskies!!! Time to take down the 18th #1 in the NCAA tourney, just to show that not can be done!!! Then cut down the nets, as it has "been a minute" but I am sure they can do it!

Go Huskies!!!
