UCLA Post Game Thread

Depth won out in this game.

The defense from the guards was amazing as was the second half adjustment on their big guy.

I haven’t seen the offense move the way it did in the last 4 or so minutes in quite some time.

I was thinking the same thing. Mullins took a 3 late that was an attempt at a dagger to finish it - he missed late in the shot clock - and that whole possession everyone was cutting every which way. I had no idea what was coming. I’m sure ucla didn’t either.

Just some honesty here so don't kill me, but I don't think they played very well. The amount of unforced turnovers was crazy. Besides Karaban, and Ross too, they weren't very good from three. Defense clamped down when they had to. UCLA didn't look very good but I do think UConn had something to do with that. Huskies did what they had to do and they're moving on to the Sweet 16. Pretty happy about that. Nice to have that to look forward to the entire work week.

By the way, the East Regional dates in DC are March 27 and March 29. Sound familiar? Good mojo!
Gotta to keep in mind ucla was missing their top scorer. I know we can counter with a limited Silas and absent JStew but need to take it with a grain of salt.

This win is dedicated to all the “experts” who picked UCLA to beat us. Well done losers!
Who are they Wally Szerbiaka for one ya I misspelled that intentionally.

All of this, but the d especially. Dent is an excellent college guard and the defensive effort is invisible in the box score.

Ross kept Dent out of the lane and that was a big part of disrupting their offense.

That UCLA team played with typical Cronin toughness and lots of respect for their fight and effort.
I know people poke fun at Cronin, but I think he is good coach and a solid human being. He and Hurley are good friends and I can appreciate that, too.

Even 50% Demary was HUGE. Really gutsy performance overall.

Disgusting performance from refs….for both teams. NCAA should be embarrassed. The T was ridiculous. Can’t have it in the tournament
Yes, you can say that and not be wrong. But I believe this style of officiating favors a finesse team and would be detrimental to the "physicality" teams. Turns out, IMHO, UConn is better in this style of officiated game. We beat SJ two more times if this was the way those games were officiated. Off my soap box.

And to the fool who said he hoped we’d lose bc he hates this team. Pretty sure he’s a regular poster. You do not deserve this team. You’re an embarrassment.
Who was that? I think he said he was done on the Boneyard until next season. I hope he stays to his word. Who needs fans like that?!

It's still a very solid win for UConn, but yes they will have to clean up the sloppy unforced turnovers. I am sure the coaching staff will really emphasize that. Silas and Stewart being hurt definitely limited UConn's potential as well. Keep in mind, Bildeau (spelling) is not a good defender.

He needs a sports psychologist. I am not trying to be mean or snarky or funny in any way-I am being totally serious. Solo is far in his own head right now it is effecting him. He just needs to see one 3 pter fall and it will go a long way for his confidence. UConn will need him to be a big contributor and he has shown he can be.
He saw one fall very furman it did nothing.

I agree it’s all in his head at this point.

He needs to see anything fall at this point though.

He didn’t dominate like he did vs Furman, but this was another good Reed game. Great defense and he hit free throws early to keep us level with them.
That's how it works. You go to him if the opponent can't stop or slow him down. You make sure he passes out when the opponent makes it difficult by doubling with mid major players. He did great. It opened up the outside with some manageable shots.

Have we ever seen a quieter 17 points from a player than Braylon Mullins tonight? He was essential in the win but oh those 5 turnovers. He does so many things well but his loose handle needs major work. I hope tonight gives him a confidence boost. One question, why doesn’t he drive inside the 3 line and pull up? He doesn’t miss from there.

Feel bad for Solo, he knows he’s hurting the team, but you can tell he cares. Ross stepping into his shoes was the difference today, I was screaming at my TV every time Dan took him out.

Shout out Demary for gutting it out and playing surprisingly great defense. Think he caught the ucla players off guard, they thought he wouldn’t be able to move with them, for obvious reasons. Get some well deserved rest.

The refs were so awful though, the NCAA needs to look into creative solutions to fix their reffing problem, almost everyone needs to be re trained. Watching an NBA game, it’s a night and day difference.

Captain Connecticut saved us! He was tremendous. Where are the Karaban haters today? I understand he can't be relied up every game but this one he was sensational doing it all. Smith was invaluable and his 13 assists and and 3 Turnovers the last 2 games can't be understated how important that. He also gives us great on the ball defense. Ross wow a real complete game by him. He is really taking a step up. It was nIce to see Mullins regain his form. The only negative is Ball. He is almost unplayable at times and he almost shot us out of the game in the 2nd half.

It's not a great UCLA team, but they did beat Michigan St last weekend in Chicago, and I believe their best played (the guy hurt tonight) didn't play in the 2nd half. Just some perspective.
Top 5 team on Bart Torvik since March 1. Didn't look good tonight but that was as much UConn's defense as anything. They've been very good recently

Fake fans. Most of you thought we were done going into the game. Same people celebrating same ones who said how bad we were and leaving in round of 32. Same ones on Twitter calling braylon trash. You guys disgust me with the stuff your writing on Twitter and on here. Kids have been playing there hearts out. To MANY MANY unfair expectations to win it all every year or its a lost season.

We're in the frigging sweet sixteen. We should be a lot healthier next weekend than we were this weekend and we're still one of the top half dozen teams in the country (per those expert enough to get a vote in the polls).

Why are some here so miserable?

And another late one. Stew might be deep on the bench due to so much time off
I suspect Stew is going to be a monster his first game back, and then go back to normal. Seems to be how that works.

The Sweet 16 is still a big deal. Look at Kansas. Since they won it 22, they haven't gotten out of the first weekend. 4 years in a row.
That’s because they have a very overrated coach who rarely does well with the supreme talent he always has
