Its like playing roulette when your a fringe 1st rounder like DD. You have to bank on 14 of 15 who left early (from UConn) went first round (or something close to that/just KEA didn't) if you are DD.

I also wonder about the foreigners eligible for the draft. Then you have vets, rookies and other challengers trying to make an NBA team. DD's best chances are to get drafted by a team willing to be patient and invest in their selection. Its a tough business, and cut throat (among the players trying to make a living).

That is always the key to the NBA draft. Those 18 years olds from France, Turkey or Ukraine that can be stashed away for a few years.

It's a dream come true on Draft Night for Fran Fraschilla(Mr. International). but not for" name guys" who drop or worse don't get picked.

I think of all the players who have left UConn early, DD IMO, has the smallest body of individual accomplishments, but I also think he's just skimming the surface as far as potential. This makes a him a great pick for a GM with a lot of foresight (and sense of job security), selecting late in the 1st round.

How many of those are there?

DD clearly has NBA talent...even if he slips to the early second, his team may still give him a guaranteed contract for two or three years.

Andre had less of a body of work - but he had elite physical gifts of size, strength and speed, A big guy with great hands, who could jump out of the gym.
