OT: UCF. LSU game

If this result holds -- undefeated UCF getting beaten soundly by a 3-loss team that didn't even sniff playoff consideration -- it's hard to see any G5 school getting into a 4-team playoff in the near future.
LSU lost to Florida on some real questionable calls, lost to #22 Texas A&M in 7 OTs where there were numerous bad calls and only legit loss was to Alabama
LSU - even missing a ton of its starters are a legit team but UCF has hurt themselves real badly in this game

Not only are they missing starters, they only have one good pair of headphones left.

I'd still rather have a healthy Mackenzie Milton on my team than any of them.;)
I don't know...Greedy Williams is the number one ranked CB prospect in the upcoming NFL draft...the kid is long (6'3") and can fly!! At the end of the day this has been a very good game...would it be better if Milton was on the field for UCF and all the starters were there for LSU...yup 100%. Would that mean a UCF run away victory..not in the least!

It would certainly be a more competitive game with Milton.

There have been moments when I actually thought Chandler Whitmer had better pocket awareness than Mack.

I get a kick out of the fact that there's a guy named Greedy who's bailing on his teammates and sitting this one out to avoid hurting his draft stock.

When players do this, what are they concerned about? Injury? Or getting exposed against top competition?

Injury.

Notre Dame lb a few years ago lost 8 figures with one of the worst knee injuries you’ll see in the fiesta bowl (non playoff game)

Jaylon Smith. Had terrible nerve damage.

Has been playing lights out this year though. A real good story.

Probably the best Bowl game I have watched yet. It’s too bad that between Milton and all the kids from LSU missed the game. It would have been that much better! IMHO these 2 teams were both better than the ND team that showed up to play Clemson.

Dang...the Bayou Bengals lost a lot of defensive players for the bowl...

Why?

College football is the only sport where you can go undefeated in the regular season and not have a chance to play for a championship. I dont care what happened today. The system is broken, and its unbelievable that all these highly educated people that make big $$$ to make these decisions just sit there and allow it to happen.

If UCF wants a shot to play for a meaningful championship, they have to schedule big games out of conference. Easier said than done, but in the current state of things it’s the way it is.

An 8 team playoff is probably the better way to go.

Florida proved that these guys are ducking them. Offering totally ridiculous offers while turning down reasonable ones

Let's not pretend that the QB is not the most important position on the field. If Mack hits on just some of his throws, UCF wins fairly comfortably. 78 passing yards? I don't think Milton has had a game in the last 2 years where he hasn't thrown for 78 passing yards...in 1 quarter.

I almost didn't mind them not playing for the title this year. Kind of like the Kenyon Martin/Cincy deal in hoops awhile back where his injury cost them a couple of seed lines. Not the same team w/o Milton. Would've been slaughtered by Bama or Clemson with Mack at the helm. Not that Milton would've meant a win vs either of those two. As it was it's arguable that Murray was/is a better QB than Tua, and Oklahoma still lost.

They shut down Murray for a large portion of the game.

If you’re gonna beat bama, you need a mobile QB who can pulls plays out of their rectum, and/or use a ton of illegal pick plays.

Clemson had Watson and needed a lot of both

Did ESPN need to spend at least 10 minutes of the game pissing all over UCF and the AAC? Of course they started backtracking once UCF pulled to within a score and got the ball back at the end.

And as for the whole oh, well LSU was missing a lot of players - well the players who choose to skip the game or get kicked out of the game for spearing with the helmet don't count. Those are choices the kids make. Bad luck is losing guys to injuries.

So put the LSU players on the field who were injured and put Milton in this game instead of Mack and UCF wins. The difference in the pocket between Mack and Milton is huge. Mack was awful today....although his best pass was the one dropped that should have been a 75 yard TD.

That was a horrendous game. Two dozen penalties, dozens of other mistakes - drop some more touchdown passes jeeze.

An aside: Could our friends at ESPN have done more bashing of UCF and the non-P5 programs. They are treating college football like its amprivate country club. I'd like to see ESPN go out of business. They completely forgot their early years when they struggled for a audience with their Australian Rules football.

The absurd comments supporting Florida were killer.

Especially when the argument is that Florida is part of the group so UCf has to grab their ankles until they are invited into that group.

That’s the circular bs that gets us to UCf situations

UCF needs to take the 2-for-1 and just beat Florida. Things will never change unless you do what it takes to beef up the OOC schedule.

Florida does not consider UCF a peer. There is no one who can force Florida to treat UCF as a peer. If UCF wants to be treated like a peer, it must earn the right. That means UCF needed to swallow its pride and accept what it could get. If Florida offers 2 for 1, then UCF should accept the offer and play the games. It doesn't matter if UCF thinks this is unfair. UCFs opinion about fairness doesn't matter. What matters is the outcome of the games.

Remember that refusing to play the 2-1 with Florida does not hurt Florida. It only hurts UCF. Florida is offering UCF terms that Florida considers reasonable for a competition between P5 and Non P5. Other P5 schools will agree the Florida is being reasonable. UCF refusing the 2-1 will cast UCF as an entitled school seeking privileges above its modest station. It will not come across as a school unjustifiably wronged and insulted.

UCF should have accepted the terms.

Yep. UCF should take the deal with UF. The narrative that UCF can’t hang with LSU is stupid. With Milton UCF wins this game by 20 points. Without dropping easy catches, this version of UCF wins by 14 today.

1) both of you lose all rights to complain about conference realignment. At all. Period. Full stop. End of discussion.

2) UCf has the same amount if titles over the last 10 years as Florida.

3) Florida is ducking them and this is a great pr stunt. They dodge them by offering an abysmal deal for UCF. Boise got a return game with Oregon and got va tech and Georgia to play one game on neutral sites. Florida ran scared from similar proposals from UCF. I can’t belive people are buying this bs. This is more of a fake offer than the Washington nationals offer to Bryce Harper on the last day of the regular season. An offer that you know they won’t accept just so you can throw your hands up and say you tried.
