UCF Comparison

Why even....

By even pretending to have a rivalry with Central Florida, we give UCF status they haven't earned as an athletic department. They had a nice run in football but then their program exploded and now they have a smoking crater.

Not sure why we persist in it - they ought to send us a thank-you note for polishing their image.

It is fun to spit on a smoking crater.

There are also plenty of other schools besides those three that have gotten hosed by realignment. Idaho is FCS. Marshall, Southern Miss, New Mexico State - plenty of others schools are worse off.

Can't wait to hear what playing BC means!

.-.
I never quite understood how or why Diaco came up with a fake rivalry game with UCF? Clearly their rival in the conference is USF, so they will never view UCONN as anything more than another game on the schedule.

Why not create a trophy with Temple? They are at least a geographic and recruiting rival who happens to lack a rivalry of their own in conference. The schools could get the basketball teams involved as well. Whomever wins 2 out of the 3 football/basketball games gets the trophy.

He was just trying to create a "buzz". It was UCF because they seemed to be trending upward and were a good target. There was no actual intention to create a true rivalry with them or anyone else in the AAC.

Common sense? We don't take too kindly to that around here.

The whole thing was taken from a quote Diaco made after we beat them a couple years ago. He half-jokingly said we should start a rivalry game with them. People at mighty UCF read it and scoffed at being rivals with us peasants from Storrs. Diaco being the lunatic he is went and made a trophy for the game.

It was definitely about piggy-backing on their fleeting success at a time when he was hard-pressed to generate any positive press...

Sounds a little Big Ten like to me....

They play for the Old Brass Spittoon, The Old Wooden Bucket, The Little Brown Jug, ...and let's not leave out the $5 Dollar Bits Of Broken Chair Trophy (Nebraska-Minnesota).

It seems like those Big Ten guys, in the way back, just looked around the room for what was handy and said "let's play for this" and call it a rivalry.
