U19 Gold Medal Game - Russia vs USA - 4/30

Russia is getting defensive rebounds and hitting their shots down low. USA is standing around watching the ball go up, and not going to the basket if it doesn't go in. 32-31 Russia.

USA must set one of Russia's BIGs down with foul trouble. They are playing very well off each other. The USA has nor answer for that combination so far. They're making it look easy, too easy. They're just trading baskets. This game may come down to the last possession. Russia's hi-lo is working to perfection. So far, we're not stopping it.

IMHO the problem is that Russia actually runs offense. Not only do they play off each other effectively, but when one player gets into the post it draws 2 or 3 defenders from team USA leaving 1-2 Russian players wide open to receive a pass and make a layup.

USA trying to out-talent Russia while Russia is trying to win with ball movement and team play. USA's post play is surprisingly weak - Alarie and Hebbard getting owned when they play defense, and Holmes is a no-show thus far.

As a side note, glad to see Danger seems to have found her shot. Carter is going to be special too, but boy does she need some conditioning. Sprints down the court once and almost can't breathe.

Musina 6'4" Power Forward for Russia. Don't know how many times she's been matched up against one of USA's guards who are in the 5'9" range.

42-36 USA at the half. BIG rebounding edge for Russia. Dangerfield is playing like the leader she is for this team. Anyone that's not sure if Dangerfield has progress any since last season, tell them to look at the first half of this game. It speaks for it's self. I really really like Chennedy Carter. She's a gamer!!!

If #15 for the USA could make a layup they would be up by double digits at the half. Dangerfield is the best player when she's in the game.

Russia appears to have one woman on their coaching staff, the first to show up on an opponent's bench for the last four games. US couldn't find one male coach to round out their staff who, BTW haven't shown me much.

Also, is Christyn(sp) Williams hurt? The #1 Hoopgurlz 2018 recruit didn't see any minutes last game and has been used sparsely during the tournament.

USA leads 42-36 at the half. USA shooting 43%
USA getting most of their most points from Jump Shots. 9 Points on 3 point shots. USA 5 Assists.

Russia shooting 50% with 10 Assists. Seems like Russia is having an easier time scoring baskets. They're mostly point blank shots.

USA is leading because Russia has 11 turn overs compared to only 1 for USA.
Russia is owning the Glass 27 Rebounds to 14 for USA.

Would like to see USA get some easier baskets(layups) and they have to shut down Musina and/or Vadeeva . If not, they'll take over the 2nd half.

Holmes only played 5 minutes in first half and didn't score. She has the size and agility to matchup with Musina. So far her play has been ineffective.

Overall a Good Half of BB for Team USA.

I have had the same thought, wish Team USA had selected another college player who may have been able to contribute more. USA could use a lights out three point shooter or a more physical low post player who could rebound. Especially needed in this game.

USA needs better ball movement in the 2nd half. Russsia has 10 assist while the US only has 5 (all from Harris).

Russia's best post player Vadeeza does have three fouls. If USA can get the 4th foul on her early in the 2nd half, sure would go along ways towards who wins this game.
Musina doesn't have any fouls and she'll probably play every minute of the 2nd half if the game remains close.

There are times you know that all Crystal is looking to do is to shoot the ball and usually when she's in that mindset, she misses the shot. :(

It's turned into a 5 on2 game, and the Russians are keeping up. USA can't stop their two BIGS. 19 7 & 17 points respectively.

Russia's low post players are beginning to take over the game. USA's low post players are Totally InEffective against them. Both on offense and defense.

Result is Russia is getting easy baskets and USA is forced to be a Jump Shooting team. Not a success to win a game, unless you shoot better then 50%

Anyone have the link to the list of players that tried out for U19? I'm interested in looking over post players again?!?

The Russian team is playing much more Geno-like basketball than the US. Too much one-on-one, and the Russians aren't biting.

Musina is very good but I haven't seen her make a left handed drive to the hoop once.

USA's low post players have 6 points. Russia low post players of Musina and Vadeeza have 41.

They also have 20 Rebounds and USA's trio of low post players have 14

Joyner Holmes has just two points? Seriously? That's a great job by the Russians of holding America's best player in check.
