Big?! I'll say.

That's a close game suddenly considering how much they've been beating everyone else by so far.

Moriah (5), Morgan (16), Stewart (22) did score 43 of Team USA's 69 points. Jones and Harper had bad shooting days 5-21. However Jones did have the basket that sealed the game. A three with 28 seconds left and did block a 3 point attempt with 21 seconds left.

Kelsey Plum, Gabby Green and Candice Agee did not play in the game. Brianna Turner played 12:35 minutes and only had a rebound and a steal for her stats. She missed her one shot attempt.

Interesting decisions by Meier. She played a mostly ineffective Turner for several minutes in the 4th qtr with both Graves and Wilson -- who, based on stats, were much more active and effective -- on the bench.

Tough game. Huge 3 by Jones at the end.

Spain did beat Brazil so they like Team USA are undefeated going into the Medal Rounds.

USA Plays Japan & Australia plays China on the USA side of the Bracket.
Spain plays Canada & France plays Brazil on the Spain side of the bracket.

It looks like USA vs Australia to get to the Gold Medal game and France vs Spain on the other side of the bracket. Brackets - Link Hope I'm right :)

Frontcourt players 20-42, backcourt 7-26, in spite of jones 3 at end they almost shot the USA team out of the game. They need to do better the rest of the way, I would expect that Breanna, and Morgan will be double, and triple teamed until the guards show they can shoot better.

Thanks again Wbb for keeping us posted..........And for giving my heart and respiratory system a workout there at the end. :)

Anyone know if any of these foreign under 19 player are looking for American universities to play at? Geno did have good luck with a certain Russian player ;)

Not a slur on Meier, but gotta wonder what the score would have been with a much more experienced coach, say Geno for example.

Well, Geno coached the U19 team in 2001 and that team was 6-1 and won the bronze medal. Geno was probably the same age as Meier is now and he has learned a lot since then.

Apparently Spain is a hotbed for College Coaches this year. Countries like Australia and France have academy's the best players go to. Many other countries young players are signed by pro teams with development contracts. He did say with the worsening European Economy more players are looking to the US for scholarships. Don't see many Russian players coming to the US to play. I think Svet was so independent minded that she balked at what the Russian Federation wanted and came to play for Geno.

From the article cited in the previous post, here are the quarterfinal matches for Saturday:

Quarter-Finals
11:15: Spain v Canada
13:30: Brazil v France
18:00: Australia v China
20:15: Japan v USA

I assume that these refer to local times??

They are local times. USA will play 1:15 on Friday not Saturday. USA if I recall correctly played the last game of the day in all their tournament games.

Here's A’ja Wilson's post game comment about Stewie and Tuck...just saying....

How important are veterans like Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck to this team in a game like tonight? They are the backbone to this team. They are coming off of a NCAA championship and they have great leadership. They really help us out. I know they help me out especially. Out on the court, me being a rookie and getting a chance to play with them and feeding off of them, it’s just a positive all the way around.

I. Slim for the Netherlands is headed to Syracuse. She had a horrendous game agianst thw USA, but a little better today, scoring 7 points.

I wouldn't object to seeing this huddle at Gampel in a couple of years:

I think she has a sister Virginia who played, but had to give up the game due to lung issues...

Good for Canada. I actually really like Achonwa for ND, and liked Pilypaitus (or however you spelled her name) who played for UVM. I think there was another Canadian on that UVM team (also with a Greek name?) - always nice to see our "cool" neighbors from the north do well! I always root for Canada unless they are playing against the USA...

May Kotsopolous (sp?) also played for UVM.
