Isn't PAOK in Thessaloniki? I saw this when I searched for Thessaloniki.

While Athens has the edge on Thessaloniki for islands, Thessaloniki has Athens beat for beaches. Few people know that some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece are not on the islands but rather in the Halkidiki peninsula, a short bus ride or drive from Thessaloniki.

Sounds like a nice place for a young guy to live.

I still don't think these beaches hold a candle to Sounio BUT... they are very nice and NOT a short bus ride away, lol. Unless you consider a 2 1/2 hour drive (not bus) nearby. But anyway, that may be near enough. The island of Thassos is also 3 1/2 hours away.

Yeah I would not consider 2 1/2 hours away a short bus ride! It's not like you can wake up and say to yourself, "Let's go to the beach and hang out today before our game tonight."

You nailed it — the beaches in Halkidiki are absolutely epic. The scene might be hottt in Mykonos but all the Greeks rave about Halkidiki.
