Edsall and JC suffered the same fate regarding their relationship with Hathaway. I'm not against standards and would support Hathaway's standards towards athletics and academics if it was based on principles. But it wasn't imo. Hathaway was so egocentric and controlling he needed to sabotage those equally strong minded males who he butted heads with. So he set standards at UConn that were different than only a handful of universities regarding their approach to athletes and academics. And that put UConn at a disadvantage relative to other programs. In football it translated to a plateau of accomplishment, albeit an incredibaly quick rise from nothing. In basketball it ended with an apr fiasco.
The hire of PP was not based on progressing the football program. It was about getting a soft spoken, agreeable person into a prominent sport to make the AD's life easier.
