Darius Butler was terrible with the Patriots, which is why he was cut. I haven't watched the Colts much this year, but it's good to see he's improved enough to be a contributer on a playoff team.

And not being able to recognize a defensive back really has nothing to do with how big a UConn fan you are. I'm a die-hard Eagles fan, and if Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Trent Cole were posing for a picture in street clothes, I probably wouldn't recognize them either.

Personally speaking, I try to support the football program whenever I can, but the product is not appealing enough for me to go out of my own way to catch the game. Props to those that do.

Not trying to pick on you, but this one of the reasons we are not in a stable conference right now.

A fan committed enough to post on a bball message board has no idea who one of the greatest fball players we have had is.

Football really screwed the pooch with the PP hire. Coming off a BCS appearance and with our conservative coach bolting for greener pastures, that was the opportunity to make an exciting hire of a young guy to build the UConn brand and advance the gains we had made (and to be honest, plateau'd) under RE. That was not the time to rest on our laurels with a "safe" hire to try to merely consolidate our gains. It sure as hell wasn't going to energize and grow the fan base and get them to rally behind the program.

Where it should be? In the 2011 season, coming off of a BCS bowl, season ticket sales and television ratings did not spike like one would assume. Things SHOULD be a lot better than they are now. The product on the field, obviously, has a lot to do with it but there should have been a pretty steep climb after the Fiesta Bowl.

I think the best era in UConn football history ended with the departure of Randy Edsall. I think many fans felt the next coach (PP) would have to start over again. And yes, the product on the field has not been good.
However, UConn football has a pretty big fanbase, and moreover dsturdy, look at the attendance at the men's bball games! They seem to be gatting smaller each year.

I think Edsall already hit his ceiling and while he left the program in a good place they still needed to hire a more exciting personality and game changer.........and look what they do?? Awful, awful job by the university!

And quite honestly as bad as they were this past year, a team who could not even put points up on the boards in the 2nd half of a game, they keep him? Losing another year will not help get us in a good conference they need to make the changes necessary to help people in the state excited......for now they're not close!!

Edsall and JC suffered the same fate regarding their relationship with Hathaway. I'm not against standards and would support Hathaway's standards towards athletics and academics if it was based on principles. But it wasn't imo. Hathaway was so egocentric and controlling he needed to sabotage those equally strong minded males who he butted heads with. So he set standards at UConn that were different than only a handful of universities regarding their approach to athletes and academics. And that put UConn at a disadvantage relative to other programs. In football it translated to a plateau of accomplishment, albeit an incredibaly quick rise from nothing. In basketball it ended with an apr fiasco.

The hire of PP was not based on progressing the football program. It was about getting a soft spoken, agreeable person into a prominent sport to make the AD's life easier.

I know, mau. I just feel like, as a men's bball fan first and foremost, that I'd rather be in any league than what we're left with. I'd rather we join the basketball only C-7. It sucks that our bball program has to suffer because of college football.
