TV Guilty Pleasure

I have a Playststion III and play mainly sports games. Feel exactly zero guilt about it.

I also have the last version of EA NCAA football that will ever be made. I won like 9 national championships with UConn. I would put them in a different conference every other season.

Bought it for a song a couple years ago off eBay. On my 3rd 1st season and just beat Maryland last night (first one was with Diaco). Mcquillan was such a weapon.

I play NCAA basketball a lot. I have the one with Blake Griffin on the cover. I'm going for my fourth straight title with Holy Cross.

Surprised at how many people here are into games. I meet lots of people IRL who consider it a source of pride that they have never played video games. Almost all of them watch a fair amount of TV. Can't even begin to explain to them that games can have all of the elements of a TV series and it's interactive. Putting maintenance into a character creates an embodiment that a well constructed game can take advantage of.

No games, I think last one I played with any frequency was Tiger Woods 98 for a year or so. Not much TV except morning news, UConn and Pirates games and Netflix/Amazon series binges. There is zip on network TV or most all the "free" cable that is of any interest and nothing I'd set aside time to watch on a weekly basis with an exception for BCS.

I used to watch Bourdain with some regularity and was interested in food shows awhile back until they became stupid. Many ideas should just be allowed to run their natural course and go away instead of being propped up with idiotic plotlines and gimmickry.

I am the sort who blames media for the dumbing down of current society

And I know a whole lot of you were YUGE fans of The Apprentice/Celebrity Apprentice and think it's even better IRL!

I got bored with UConn, so I did San Jose State too. That one took 1 or 2 extra seasons to make the National Title. The Mountain West stadiums have the coolest backgrounds in the game of any conference. I couldn't get to the National Title game until I moved them into the Pac 12. I kept getting jumped by 1 loss P5 teams. The game was more realistic than it got credit for.

I know it is possible to get to the title game out of a non-P5, but I was playing 10 minute quarters, which translates into about a 90 minute game in real time. So each season was about 21 hours, plus recruiting and setup, which takes a while. Round up to 26 hours a season, and I didn't feel like rolling the dice on getting left out, so I moved the Spartans to the Pac 12.

.-.
One more new one: Dr. Pimple Popper. Don't watch this one on a full stomach.

Makes wife makes fun of me because I still watch The Challenge on MTV.

Just watched a couple of these with my daughter. It was surprisingly engaging. You can't help but diagnose when people come in. "Yeah that could be a cyst, but it looks like a lipoma to me."

Also started watching the latest incarnation of Nightwatch.

I also watch iZombie, I read all the comics too which makes me doubly geeky.

I'd been enjoying the series, but IMO it went downhill when they turned Seattle into Zombie Nation. I don't even like Liv's character anymore. The supporting characters like Clive, Ravi and Peyton are why I still watch it.

Agreed

Bar Rescue - My kids always walk in and say, "Oh, this is the episode where Taffer yells at the guy."

Fixer Upper - I have no defense for this one.

Like @Beemer I need my Incredible Doctor Pol! Which, of course, means Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet, too.

Never saw Dr. Pimple Popper until two weekends ago. Almost got sucked into watching a second one after my first. Was out eating ribs last week and cut the fatty ends off...and suddenly had a lipoma flashback. Nasty imagery.

I also like:

Ink Masters.
The Goldbergs
Deep Fried Masters

Used to be hooked on What Not to Wear.

I watched the first three seasons of the Goldberg's. It was very funny

I can't get into Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet. I do watch Dr K's Exotic Animals occasionally.

And I am not a fan of that one. I like the surgical procedures highlighted on Dr. Jeff. That dog bitten by a rattler was a good one.

The two vets from Alaska are kinda meh. And the show about the black vets, to me, is a train wreck. I like the vet school show.

I agree about the Alaska vets. I haven't seen the other two shows.

By “guilty pleasure” do you mean just garbage tv where you learn nothing? All I can think of there is My Strange Addiction and whatever given MTV show someone had on in their dorm at the time I was present, but haven’t watched any of that in forever.

I consider all the cooking shows I watch to be fairly mindless, especially shows like Master Chef, but I mean I at least sometimes glean useful information

Well I guess by the first definition, all the sports we watch count

Hmm..

Wife watches those below Deck things. I have not.

Wizards of Waverly place and Hanna Montana were both good
Current guilty pleasures: River Monsters, Moonshiners, House Hunters, Beach Front Bargain Hunt, Fixer Upper.

No guilt really on River Monsters, it's well done.

I very much enjoy Master Chef but if you like a show that might teach you some new cooking techniques while also being entertaining, try Top Chef. There are some incredible cooks on the seasons I've binged. Also if you can ever find Master Chef: Professionals (I think it aired on BBC America for awhile), that one blew my mind with some of the stuff they did. Both of those really gave a closer look to how to do a bunch of stuff instead of just glossing it over as they do on MC on FOX (although the Ramsey lessons are always great).

I'm a big Top Chef fan. Can't get enough Padma in my life. If you get Hulu, they have all the back seasons of Top Chef and Top Chef Masters.
