Yes, this has been dissected on the Conference Realignment board. Amazing - we could come in at 20 mil per year from this deal while the C7 may be at 40 mil per year. Yet all we hear is how important football is and even tty football blows away everything else. So in this instance we will have a mid level hoops league making about DOUBLE what we will make for a league with basketball AND football. GET US OUT OF THIS WARDE!!!!

Nova, Marqutte and Gtown are perennial tourney teams. If the league adds Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis, Butler and VCU as expected that is an additional 3 teams that will always be in the discussion.

How many are in the new NBE? 3?

The reason the TV deal is so low is because UConn and Cinci are completely noncommittal, and there's a decent chance we won't be around. Now if we were willing to sign a GOR the NBE would be in the range of at least $50 mill (best guess). Like Jacobs said all we can do is keep winning and hope for the B1G/ACC call.

Let onions feel good about his C7. But like all of us he's lobbying for the best case scenario of his group and not looking at the entire picture.

UConn, Temple, Cincy, and Memphis, and Houston have the same cache as whatever the C7 can group together. The markets are equivalent and probably favor the BE. The two schools in Florida have more alumni in their short history then the all of the C7 can put together. So it isn't about markets or history or success. UConn trumps all the other teams combined almost by itself in the success category.

The answer is stability. There is almost zero probability that the C7 league will change once it brings in whoever. But the BE is almost sure to change at some point in time and that is the primary if not exclusive factor in the lowball numbers.

We totally agree! Sad thing is that the BE, if it stayed together could have exceeded the value of the ACC, but that required patience and trust. Too many schools flinched, preferring the numbers in hand as opposed to confidence in themselves. It didn't help that the major media negotiator had vested interests in both the ACC and the BE and played the schools off one another to maximize their deals in their favor.

Providence is the #52 Market, Memphis is #48, New Orleans is #53

I guess so was Temple. And if you argue demographics then UCF and USF should be considered as well. But arguing about population base is only one factor. I'm not going to open a burger joint in India. Market is bigger than China, or will be so in a short time. But they are culturally against beef. If DePaul develops into a powerhouse, then perhaps Chicagoans will gravitate to that program. But here is the catch in that scenario. If Depaul finds that coach you assert, and if he brings the program to success, what is the likelihood he gets poached by a program making 35 million a year vs. DePaul's money deal?

So DePaul and all the other C7 schools will have trouble developing lots of momentum. Same for the BE schools. And the media guys know this. Their markets are not the driving factor in this. UConn's plight, plain and simple, is it's success and it's potential to find itself in another conference. Same with Cinci. If they could prove commitment, the deals would be reversed. But after the defections of A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska, and most recently Maryland, there is no proof. So the C7, if they get a better deal, no certainty about this, it isn't because they are more valued by market share. It is about stability relative to the unstable BE.
