Tunes you digging right now

I am in the waiting room for the unreleased World Party album Karl was working on before he died. Since @QDOG5 thread last October, World Party has been a top five listen for me. That man is an undeniable genius. You want poetry? "You're a Hurricane, I'm a Caravan". You want pop/rock, "Way Down Now". Social Commentary? Everything! Ship of Fools is Oasis five years before Oasis. The rare band you can shuffle play, and not need to skip.

I hope something gets put on a soundtrack and blows up like Kate Bush did a couple years back. Get the music in front of the ears, the rest will take care of itself.
Much as I would love to get at least one more recording from Karl, who would put it together? He'd been talking up a new album "coming soon" since 2004. Only person I can think of who could do it is Peter Gabriel, who got to know Karl, his music, and inspirations really well during the recording of "Big Blue Ball".

The Robbie Williams "monkey" movie did nothing for Karl other than more royalties for "She's the One". He was the musical director for "Reality Bites", a movie nobody remembers. I swear I've heard "Vanity Fair" used in either a movie or TV show.

There really wasn't anyone like him. His passing still hurts.

I've gotten into a few of his songs throughout the summer, but I've finally dove deep into Mk.gee's debut album Two Star & the Dream Police.

Idiosyncratic guitar wizardry and production, simple, but sexy R&B adjacent songs. Throw on some headphones and enter the realm...

I have never been a Counting Crows fan, but I am digging this one from their new album in the rotation on Sirius/SM Spectrum channel. It made me check out the rest of the album, which is not bad either.

This album just dropped last week. For those that like blues based rock, this young band fits in as if it were the 70's. This is a side project from the gutarist of Gretta Van Fleet. I'm liking this much more than GVF.

I saw spoon and the pixies last Monday. I’ve been a spoon fan for awhile. Inside out is my favorite song of theirs. I had never seen the pixies bitd but they came out and rocked. No hello, no talk between songs, no goodbye at the end. Just music. Which I found very cool.

Speaking of REM.... I just saw the international touring tribute band "Dead Letter Office" at the green room at New Park Brewing. Amazing show. Yes, they played the radio hits but also tons of the old IRS stuff. Two sets, 36 songs. If you're a fan, go see them. Dead Letter Office - International tribute to R.E.M.

Karl Denson. Any tune, any time. Especially the stuff with the late great Melvin Sparks. Or something from @August_West but he never plays fairfield county anymore

"Rock On" popped into my head so I had to search it up

That was my first favorite rock song! Dream On was my second.

Been a fan of Phoebe since lock down, but heard this 2018 cover of “Friday I’m in Love” earlier this week and very much a fan. The piano chord shift from “Thursday, never looking back” is chilling!

Another song on the Sirius/XM Spectrum channel playlist that is catchy and has me singing this all day

I love this band, definitely a rabbit hole worth heading down. Half the City is an awesome album and Alien Coast is probably my favorite tune by them.

Had the urge to search up Stevie Nicks since she just played the PBA. I believe 2 of her backup singers are Sharon Celani and Lori Perry-Nicks, from my research. The one closest to Stevie really caught my attention. Should bring you to the 33:38 mark of Stand Back

I’ve been on a Magnetic Fields kick lately and their 69 Love Songs album is an entire journey, but one of my favorites:
