Tulane to Join Big East All Sports

What on earth is the point of a conference with Temple, Memphis, Tulane, SMU, and San Diego State? Indeed, I certanly hope UConn is not associated with this silliness.

I know they have to keep trying but this thing is just getting crazy - the travel costs for members in non-revenue sports are going to be brutal.

This thread is worthy of more comment. I had to go searching for it, as it had generated only 4 comments, nearly all of which bad mouth the BE, rather than express appreciation for the "Harvard if the South" having joined and strengthened the Big East.

I say welcome Tulane, we look forward to developing a friendly rivalry and we are thrilled a school with your academic reputation has come onboard.

For those who want UCONN to beg its way into another conference, let me remind you that beggars are perceived as weak. If you really want out, it's best to play hard to get. And better still to nurture growth in the BE such that others will want to come back.

The big east is barely on life support. Boise State? SDSU? Houston, Memphis, USF, UCF, now Tulane? The only thing missing is the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps the University of Seattle will decide to join. Anyone left in the BE after it's been picked over like a dead hippo carcass is going to quickly realize the travel expenses are crazy, and the teams left are no better than a glorified C-USA or A-10. We can all hope and pray that the ACC gets raided just one more time so UCONN can maybe finally be asked.

BTW there are rumors of UNC and Duke possibly on their way out FWIW... I wonder if the ACC will be picked apart like the BE was and perhaps the nACC will resemble the former Big East...

Wow. When you see all the teams displayed in this way, you can really see how bad things are. Right now, at least, the next team is one that, because of its limited attractiveness and its coach's style of play, is probably not going to get much better. St. Johns would have had great upside with their previous coach but she escaped to, oh yeah, one of the power conferences. DePaul and GTown are solid, but not likely to crack the national top 10 any time soon.
