Tuff freethrows 22-4

I think Sarah missed more shots at the rim in the last two games than she did for the entire season previously.
She looked like a tired athlete. I'm not sure playing her 27 minutes a game in the league had her ready for the gring in the playoffs. Azzi looked very similar and if those two aren't at least good UConn has no shot because the others just don't score enough.

But my point was that this year SC did not foul much regardless of opponent. A 39 game sample is a pretty big one. That being said...bummer of a loss!
No, the refs didn't call fouls on SC, regardless of the opponent.

This is a fair question to ask. On one hand, rest might avoid injuries. On the other hand, you wonder if they are in game shape.

After several days of gathering my thoughts and refraining from posting anything, I conclude we just didn’t have the fire in our bellies.

How much of the discrepancy was because UConn was having to foul a bunch in the last few minutes. Go back and rewatch the game. It’s eye-opening how good the referees did and I can promise you. I am usually the worst critic. I keep Garnet colored glasses on when it comes to officiating. But I always watch our games the second time and realize I was probably wrong 85% of the time. Even though I don’t want to admit it when we need a foul called and it’s not. Then I realize after the emotion passes the ref got it right. Sometimes it’s the next day.

But I will say your players showed a lot of class by getting in line and shaking hands. And never mind, the fact that Raven also helped Strong up after fouling her as well as Joyce did. I have never seen Raven remotely act like an LSU player. And that was a point5 second action on her part. Maybe she gets the same grace as Geno. His actions went a bit longer.

There’s truth in your comments. And I think everyone who follows South Carolina was afraid UConn would come out with that same intensity we saw last year. The other thing is, it was just one of those nights where your shots were not falling. That’s a game changer for any team. We’ve had several of those. It’s not an indictment of your team. I wouldn’t wanna play UConn 25 times.

Yes the mauling frustrated Sarah and Azzi but also hard to come off screens when you are being held…
Besides us not playing well the 2 lucky 3 points shots from Okut at a moment in first half and late in the game sort of were also momentum change.
I am going to paraphrase a coach that once told me when there was such fouls differential.
I yelled to the refs…I thought we were the only ones playing defense”

The Big East prepared the UConn men's team for the NCAA Tournament. It did not prepare the women's team. Beating teams by 50 teaches one nothing about how to play under pressure, and it showed aganst SC. When we could have used an extended time with a big (or two) on the floor to counter SC's size, Geno stubbornly stuck with his small lineup.

Well, in the past season, a bigger lineup rarely worked as well as the smaller lineups. We needed to play fast, disrupt, and hit threes. We just lacked fire and our stars got rattled.

Bottom line, in painfully rewatching the game, "mauling" is a good word for SC's defense on Sarah. She took at least 6 shots to the kidneys that could have caused damage. That being said, you adjust to the game and UConn was not able to so give SC credit. No reason to think Sarah or Azzi needed more rest, we needed to have played a tougher schedue, or any other theories. This level of pushing, hitting, etc. typically gets called but in any game there is always the chance that strange things happen and this was one of those games.

Strange but definitely calculated.
