I just had several drinks...so I'm feeling a little better now. To Morgan- I've long remembered what I think are two applicable quotes from my favorite coach (circa 1970's)...

"Tough times never last, but tough people do."

"The pain you feel today is the strength you'll feel tomorrow."

The knee issues for #UConn's Morgan Tuck are same ones she's been dealing with, just a different approach to get her ready for March

"You always get annoyed because you always want to play but this is a good time to be out for two weeks so I am glad it is now and not later on in the season,' Tuck said after Tuesday's practice.

"I'll do cardio every day, either swimming or bike so it is not pounding and still be involved with the team,' Tuck said. "It is not a specific thing you can do, it is more of letting it calm down a little bit
It depends on how it feels. It is like anything, you have to talk to Rosie, if you are in pain, you go to her and talk about it."

I'm glad to hear that it's nothing new. Morgan is a key component, as we saw in the Houston game. I look for Natalie, Gabby, Pheesa, and Lou to pick up some slack.

Heard that tonight on Channel 3. Not a good sign for her returning next year. If the knee is that bad then how many years could she earn the big bucks as a pro? That's a tough call.

Could go both ways
Morgan is a realistic young woman with a good head on her shoulders
If the knee cannot stand the rigors of 12 month pro-basketball
An MBA would certainly be a great ticket to a successful career.

Not worried at all if both Morgan and MoJeff site out. I will miss them playing but UConn has enough talent to win big over the next few games. SC imo is big, slow, and not a very good outside shooting team. We will need MoJeff and Morgan but I have no doubt we will beat SC with or without them. With them it makes it a lot easier.

The timing is perfect for Tuck to sit and rest. Maybe for other starters too and give the non starters a chance to develop. Im hoping Saniya can play and her leg is better. If Mojeff sits this is a good time for Saniya to get her game going. There are a lot of positives resting Tuck. Number 1 is more playtime for others. Butler especially. I think Butler will be a force once she is developed and with her size, reach, rebounding and shooting from 15 ft she is a load for anybody to guard.

This is a good move for the team down the road as Tuck will be healthy and others gain a lot of experience.

I can only see good coming out of this. Tuck will have a rested knee heading to the tournament, Butler, Collier, and Williams will get more minutes, and there will be some pressure put on the entire team to produce. They will also have to break the "Dump it into Tuck" approach to the start of a game and come up with a new strategy, so the coaching staff will get to sharpen their axes, as well. Finally, it adds a bit of uncertainty to the USC game plan; this adds a few layers of uncertainty, and they will have to plan for two VERY different teams.

As for Bon-bon, she'll be fine. Another game of rest for her, and some more time for Nurse and Chong (as she can handle it) at the point. We may see some of KLS at her natural 2, and some more Ek, as well.

South Carolina is going to be a tough game. There's a reason they have the nation's longest home winning streak. It's a bit like going to Stanford: it's where teams go to lose.

Morgan (I call her "old skool") will be missed, however, the rest of the team will keep trucking while she is out. KLS has been in a groove lately as well as Gabby.

Refresh my memory. When was the last time UConn lost at home? What is UConn's current home winning streak?

SC won their last game by one point, at home. UCONN without Tuck is as good as or better than the team SC played; I believe it was TA&M.
If the game is called fairly, UCONN has a very good chance to win there without Tuck.

HardHatGuy, you stole my thunder. I had to read all of the comments on this thread before I posted my thoughts on Morgan sitting down. Your post most mirrors what I was going to say.
I totally agree with you about seeing good coming out of this.

It's funny (ironic) how things can happen for a reason. Sometimes, we don't realize it at the time, but in retrospect, it is perfectly clear. Geno had planned on working the bench players into the fabric so to speak. Now with Morgan out for two weeks, this gives him more minutes to work with, along with a greater sense of urgency.

BFORE reading any posts, it dawned on me that some good will come out of this. Not wanting to post a redundant comment, I read the other posts, and your comment was exactly what I was going to share. Hopefully, at the end of the season, after we've won the NC, we'll look back on the season and note this occasion as the turning point in our season.

Geno knows what Morgan can do. He knows exactly what to expect from her. She does not need any additional playing time to perfect her game. Upon her return, Morgan should be as good (physically) as she can be. I'm sure no matter how long Morgan sits out, she will be ready to play when Geno really needs her.

As other posters have mentioned, now the bench players have an opportunity to get the additional playing time that they've been hoping for. Geno wanted to get them as many minutes as possible to get them ready for the post season tournaments. Now he can with the 40 extra minutes he just got.

We know that Gabby (the 6th man) will take her place in the starting line-up, this means everyone else on the bench gets to move down one spot. Whoever was behind Gabby is now the 6th man, and so on. Everyone will get more time on the floor. In some cases more that they expect, if a starter gets in early foul trouble. This should be especially beneficial to the freshmen and Ekmark (Saniya will get her usual minutes). Geno knows where everyone needs to be at the end of the regular season. Morgan being out only speeds up the process.

The basic instinct of members of a team when a member goes down is to rally around that teammate, pick them up, and step up their individual play until that teammate returns. I fully expect Morgan's teammates to have her back, and carry on. Praise be it's only for two weeks, and not the rest of the season. That would have been devastating. It will be very interesting to see how Geno shuffles the cards until Morgan's return.

Refresh my memory. When was the last time UConn lost at home? What is UConn's current home winning streak?
Last home loss - BE tournament 2013 to ND (technically the BE tournament was considered home games for purposes of streaks when it was played on a Uconn home court) last regular season home loss 2013 Feb 18 - Baylor (XL) Home wins since then - 2 in 2013 (NCAA first two rounds) 18 in 2014 (2 NCAA games were technically home games), 15 in 2015 (2 NCAA), and 6 in 2016 - so 41 games.

If you discount the tournament home games you add two home wins for 2013 but subtract the two NCAA wins after the ND BE loss, and subtract 4 from the 2014/2015 years because of NCAA home wins. So regular season home wins is 39.

FYI..........................

Women's D-I home court streaks[edit]

The five longest home court winning streaks in D-I women's basketball have all involved the University of Connecticut.

  1. 99 games — Held by UConn, ended by St. John's
  2. 82 games — Held by Stanford, ended by UConn
  3. 69 games — Held by Baylor, ended by UConn
  4. 69 games — Held by UConn, ended by Duke
  5. 69 games — Held by Tennessee, ended by UConn[33]
On December 29, 2003, UConn faced North Carolina State with a chance to step into the history books. The Connecticut team had won 68 consecutive home games. The NCAA record for consecutive home victories was held by the Tennessee Lady Vols, set in 1996, and ended by the UConn Huskies. UConn beat the Wolfpack easily, 87–53, to tie the record at 69 games.[34]

Five days later, UConn faced Duke, with a chance to take over sole possession of the home court win streak. However, Duke was ranked fourth in the nation, so the outcome was far from certain. UConn unveiled new silver uniforms for the game,[35] and at the end of the first half, the record seemed in sight. UConn led the game 35–18, almost doubling the score of the Blue Devils. However, the Huskies hit on 56% of their free throws, and Alana Beard scored 21 to get Duke back into the game. Jessica Foley hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to win the game for Duke, 68–67, and end the quest to extend the longest home court winning streak.[36]

In 2012, UConn had a home court winning streak of their own. After eclipsing the prior records of 69 games, the Huskies had gone on to win 99 in a row. They attempted to extend the record to 100 consecutive games against unranked conference foe St. John's. UConn had not lost a game to an unranked team at home, a stretch covering 19 years and 261 games. However, the Red Storm won 57–56 to end the home court winning streak at 99.[37]

On December 29, 2012, UConn faced Stanford at their home court. Only two years earlier, Stanford had beaten UConn to end the longest consecutive-game winning streak at 90 games. Now, Stanford had won 82 consecutive games at home since 1993, a stretch covering 19 years and 261 games. However, the Red Storm won 57–56 to end the streak at 99. With that streak ended, the nation's longest active home court winning streak was held by Stanford, at 76 games.[38]

In 2014, Baylor tied Tennessee and UConn for the third place for home consecutive victories with their 69th win. In the bid to win their 70th game, they faced UConn. The two senior starters on the Baylor team, Odyssey Sims, the nation's scoring leader, and Makenzie Robertson, daughter of head coach Kim Mulkey, had never lost a game at the Ferrell Center. The game was reasonably close late in the second half, but UConn went on to win by eleven points, 66–55, to end the current longest home court win streak, and extend the current winning streak, now at 24 games, held by UConn.[33]

A small ray of optimism- On the SNY pre-game show, John Altavilla conjectured that "if UConn were playing a 4 out of 7 series against Notre Dame today, Morgan Tuck would be out there playing." Really? I'm hoping that Atlavilla has good inside info on which to base that statement. Which would suggest to me that Morgan's two week hiatus is much more a precautionary measure than an absolute medical 'emergency' that would preclude Morgan from playing.

And as far as Moriah getting all banged up in practice and being a game-time decision- you're talking about the toughest kid in WCBB. No surprise that our great little warrior is playing tonight.

HardHatGuy#2 & Carnac I too started to post and cancelled when I realized others were posting better stuff but very close to my thoughts!
I really think the fringe players that don't get major minutes will now excel in these additional minutes!
KLS, Collier, Gabby, Chong, Butler, etc will grow into major minutes later on this season!
Butler, Gabby & Collier especially will soar vs SoCar's big people after being pressed into more vital game action!

It appears that Morgan is of the optimistic and trusting variety. Good traits, I'd say.

guess she can "instagram" since she's not actually playing... #socialmediaban

Wikipedia did a poor job here.
