Taking a job at UC certainly is risky in a sense because the program isn't in the best shape and if he goes 5-7 or 6-6 a couple of times, his stock is now much lower than it would be if he stayed at WMU for '17 and went 10-2/11-1.

The good news for us is that if somehow Diaco is booted and Fleck is considering the likes of UC and UH, we'd have a semi-realistic shot at bringing him in.

Fleck is not going to command a heavy duty contract, ie 12 to 15mm range. Even with a bigger school he would likely be in the 2 to mid 2 level, like an 8 mm type deal. He's not won at a p5 level, or even top g5 level over any period of time.

Brohm just got 6 years/$20MM from Purdue and he hasn't won at the P5 level either. If Fleck gets the Oregon or Baylor job it will be for similar money
 
There is a rumor that Purdue passed on Fleck to pursue Brohm. Apparently they were not impressed with his interview.

Not so sure it wasn't the other way around.. From 12/2: Purdue doesn't expect to get P.J. Fleck for coaching vacancy

A Dennis Dodd article on coaching. He was the savant of conference realignment i recall aka the last guy to know or predict anything accurately unless it had actually already happened.

He'd have to want to move out west and UO has been in a very set system for a while now, so it'd be a big changeover if he didn't stick with their style of offense. Baylor is toxic, he won't touch them. The problem with staying at WMU is he literally cannot do any better next year than he did this year, his stock can only go down. So if he doesn't make the move this year out of WMU he risks not being as hot a commodity in 2017 if WMU goes 10-2 or even 11-1. He could increase his stock at UH or UC, however.

Totally depends on the situation. Herman had a worse year this year than last. Texas aint that bad a gig though. If Fleck goes 10+ wins WMU next year his prospects will be fine, depending on his Ooc schedule possibly 9 won't hurt.

True that it's situationally dependent, though don't forget Herman beat OU and Louisville this year and lost to a ranked Navy, so that evened things a bit. WMU has USC and Michigan State on the road next year. If those are where he loses, that'll be overlooked. If he loses a couple of MAC games to bad unranked teams (SMU beat UH, I know) and doesn't beat USC and Michigan State, his stock will bump down a bit.

He's in a real tough spot, his stock is sky high right now and likely never will go higher at WMU and the job market for P5 HC positions is unusually empty with no real good fits for him.

Just saw that Tubberville is interested in the Florida Atlantic head coaching Vacancy.
Last year they paid their head coach around 600K. At 62, he'll be sitting pretty with his buyout and no doubt lowering his handicap at the same time! Also taking advantage of Floridian income tax code. Smart cookie!

Tubberville's buyout was going to be 1.5m if they waited until 12/8. He resigned and took 1m. Great deal for the school. He must be confident he will land somewhere. Clearly wasn't trying to gouge anyone.

At 62 the FAU job coupled with his buyout sounds like a nice transition into retirement.
