I assume if he leaves of his own accord there is no buy-out, no? Which is what we've been asking a certain coach to do.

Cincinnati probably acting like a P5 program and someone stepped up.

If the Bearcats can figure out an amicable way to part company with their HC, why does it seem like mission impossible for the UConn administration to do the same? Cincinnati isn't working with any more money than we are, unless some big donors stepped forward.

Doubt it:

#UC AD MIKE BOHN confirms Tuberville is stepping down: 'It's something we worked on together.'

Somewhere between $2.4m and $1.5m my guess.

#UC still working out financial terms with Tuberville re departure, AD Mike Bohn says.

I would not be shocked if they already have another coach in the fold. They have a home bball game tunite at 8pm. Tuberville may have lined up a tv job, and it is the start of bowl season. If they landed Fleck that would be a win for the AAC. Interesting to watch. Please forward this to Huskie AD!

Announcing this on Sunday seems like a predetermined strike from someone who has another coach in the fold. Announce the separation before the expected date of 12/8, preempt nfl and they also just got a nice win in bball against iowa st. on thur on the main espn. Could be an effort to put best foot forward. If that is the case, ad gains big time momentum with alumni etc. Important for bball arena funding. He's the same ad who hired Colorado's current fball coach.

This is why you make the change now instead of waiting until Jan 1. Cincinnati is about to pluck a choice coach out of the available pool. That pool will continue to get shallower toward Jan 1. By that time, your choice is limited to those that were passed over by other hiring schools. You end up with less choices. That doesn't necessarily mean you get a lesser quality coach, but it does increase the odds against you making a successful hire.

I don't get the hand wringing over this. Benedict/Warde and Herbst negotiated a stupid buyout totally one sided in favor of our dummy. We expect them to now, when they have zero leverage to negotiate something favorable to get out from under this mess?

Had Diaco had a break out year he could have left relatively unobstructed. Having totally flopped he is basically unfireable. Diaco has a great agent, and Diaco did a great sales job making 2.25 years of P seem more daunting than upgrading from FCS to FBS.

He is an idiot savant without the savant part.

Luca Brasi presided over the resignation contract signing party.
... and assured him that either his signature or his brains were going to be on the contract...

Yup. No question that UC gets "it" while we fumble around as a small-time AD. If we're waiting until 1/1 to save money, we better have a guy lined up in stone.

Cincinnati apparently figured out how to make it work for them under similar circumstances. They're in the same money crunch that we are, maybe even worse.

The difference may be that their BOT, president and AD are a lot smarter and more "big time" than ours?

Cincy was smart enough to have the buyout reduction date in early December and not Jan 1. That's why they can act now.

Bingo! Fiasco's agent snookered our administration into signing one of the dumbest coaching contracts ever. They couldn't possibly have made more mistakes if they were trying to. But it's still their responsibility to clean up their own mess.

Yep, 1/1 is a sign that they use legal help who completely do not understand the ncaa landscape. 30 days from signing date, yikes.

Fire the lawyers! They ought to be sued for malpractice.

The majority of Coach contracts have a January to December term. There are a few exception but most run calendar year.
