Tristen Newton Remind Anyone of Gilbert Arenas?

Gilbert much more explosive faster guard but same size length. I really feel good about Tristan. He has nba potential

Not even getting into what Arenas became as an elite NBA player(he went late in the draft because that was the era when non-true PGs were labeled as "tweeners" and not "lead guards"), this is what Arenas looked like at Arizona. With all due respect to Tristen, he doesn't look like this, this is another level.

Very Underrated. Machine Scorer. Deep Range. Looks like he could explode at the NEXT LEVEL.
Never thought of it before but he does move a bit like Arenas. Or maybe his shot looks similar. Definitely yes I see it.

Always thought of "Agent Zero" as a jerk. He was always a me-first player. Newton is far from that.

I love Newton and I think he will do well at the next level- wherever he winds up- they will be lucky. But if you could send me a few edibles I'd appreciate it.

Tristen is a very good college player who can be a glue-type player for UConn this season.,

I'll take it a step further, I think he's "hacked" the position in his 5th year. He's a beat ahead. Look at his shot selection, he's wide open when he shoots. Otherwise, he keeps the ball moving. Drives when they give it to him. He is definitely a glue-guy but I think he's a glue-guy and a weapon.

Hes not as crazy he’s got an entertaining podcast, actually agree with his take on the 1980s era,

Tristen Newton is one of the 10 best players in college basketball.

Tristen Newton = Dennus Johnson. Newton's game, size and average at best level of athleticism reminds me of DJ for those who are old enough to remember the Larry Bird Celtics era.

Agree? Diagree?

The correct pro comp for Newton is Austin Reeves. Big combo guard who can handle & run almost any kind of set, doesn’t have amazing athleticism but has very good feel & has improved immensely from deep.

Unlike Reeves I think he’ll get drafted.

Not a terrible comparison, but I’d say Reaves was a considerably better shooting prospect.

Also people won’t remember this, but Reaves would’ve been drafted in the second round had his agent not asked everyone to pass on him so he could sign with the Lakers. Worked out amazingly for him in hindsight, but he was a draftable player.

Good comparison with an exception on the defensive end. DJ was a defensive standout.

The UConn player that Tristen “Kinda” reminds me of is Denham Brown. Similar stature, athleticism, offense, mannerisms. Tristen having better guard skills off course.

IDK but he officially started his campaign for all-BE after not even making honorable mentions last year

It's funny that you brought up Dennis Johnson because this morning before I saw your post, I went back and looked at Dennis Johnson highlights to see if I could comp DJ to either Castle or Newton... I came up with a young DJ on the Supersonics (athletic and strong) being a really good comp to Castle and an older DJ on the Celtics (more earth-bound and wiser/sage) being more like Newton. Interesting, eh?

DJ, one of my all time favorites. Newton and Castle do not remind him of him.

I'll play this game.

If you look at Tristan's tape, the way he guards the ball with his off-arm/wrist, the way he lowers his shoulder into the defenders chest to drive and escape, the last second two-hand securing of ball before going up on his one leg opposite hand release, and lastly the look of his release on Jumper reminds me of Anfernee Hardaway. Not as tall, or nearly athletic, but I find his motions are reminiscent.
