Showtime, it was not!
[I have to complain about something - it's a mojo thing.]
In all seriousness, we--especially Bria--need to clean up our execution on fast break opportunities sometimes. This was the only sore spot the entire game for me; there were at least 3 times when Bria had the ball on the break and did *not* have clear separation from the defender but *did* have a trailer in perfect scoring position..... that she did not or would not pass to.
It's one thing to take advantage and push the ball when you have separation. There are few players better at taking advantage of this than Bria Hartley. It takes a certain attitude--as Geno spelled out clearly in the post-game, Bria is the one player on our team that, in the heat of battle, always feels and believes she is the best player on the floor. However, when you are playing against a team like ND and you are being contested on the break by someone like Diggins, McBride, or even another one of their players, you MUST HIT THE @&#(!?!*$%! TRAILER when it is clearly available!!!! Not only did she not hit the trailer, but a couple of times on the missed or blocked shot that ensued, we ended up fouling or losing the ball in the scrum.
This is just fundamental fast break basketball. I know she thinks she is going to score on every single one of those plays (she isn't) and can potentially pick up an +1, but she needs to be more disciplined. I'm not saying every play was like this--far from it---but there were several more instances of this than should be the case with an experienced 3-year guard. If it's just you and the defender and you have a path, go for it! The end of last year's FF game comes to mind. Great take by Bria, at a crucial time. But when you are being contested, especially when you're coming in from the left side of the rim (Bria being righty) and you have a trailer in a 2-on-1 situation, use the trailer!
