Rumors are heading up of Arsenal going after some defensive midfield and back line help (finally).

http://www.theguardian.com/football...ransfer-rumours-arsenal-lichtsteiner-van-dijk

Isn't a little late for that? They were going after the Greek defenders(Sokratis and Manolas) and bowed out to Roma for Manolas, they refused to pay for Sokratis. Could have had these guys cheap. Given the play of Manolas at Roma, the price has skyrocketed. As for Lichtsteiner, his play has fallen off.

At least there is talk of fixing the defense. Better than Man U which keeps trying to sign more offensive midfielders to make-up for their lack of defense. Plus, since this Arsenal, even if they signed a back or two, the player will likely break an ankle or blow a quad within 2 days of signing :(

Man City is extending Lampard's loan deal. This is officially a major blow to NYC FC, because they are officially Man City's JV/AAA affiliate. Not sure how well this will go over with NY fans. But this is a real turn off and it makes MLS look really foolish.

Personally, NYC FC's first issue is getting a stadium in place. They will not survive over the long term at Yankee Stadium. MLS already looks foolish for insisting on as second team in LA, a team in Miami, and an Atlanta team that will play in an American football stadium.

As for Lampard, OK, another big name that gets viewers; but, I would rather MLS focus on player development internally. Find the next Donovan/Dempsey/Howard in the US. Develop a scout network in Latin America like MLB has and find the up and coming stars t the opportunity to play in the US of A. The World Cup has shown the world that the US is starting to take soccer seriously. Go to Europe and find players like Wright-Philips who can't seem to get any playing time in the EPL because they haven't been personally Knighted by the Queen (Rooney has not been knighted, Beckham has).

Soccer in baseball stadiums sucks out loud. Bad sight lines, small field, looks awful on TV too.
