Why do you keep making stuff up? Van Gytenbeek didn’t help recruit anybody. She had only two teammates from Colorado, Belibi and Prechtel. And they were both juniors this year which means they were both at Stanford before she ever got there.
I found an article that connects the three and I’ll retract my statement.

It's kind of strange because Van Gytenbeek helped recruit so many of her Colorado based teammates to come to Stanford. She was very gungho. Stanford had a ton of depth at guard with a lot of experience. If she waited she would probably get more PT next year. Considering Stanford's situation going into next year, it would seem likely that they will pick up at least one more guard and possibly 2. Possibly Myers would be a great fit. It would seem to be made to order for her.

Gytenbeek only made one basket last year which was not a 3 pointer. 1 for 7. She seems to be a 3 point specialist in that offense but if you look at all their guards they are largely a 3 point shooting group of guards or non shooting group of guards except for Haley and Lexi.

I would think Gytenbeek is looking for a team where she would get more PT and if Stanford's situation next year isn't enough then I don't see Uconn being any better for her. It's crazy when such top talent can't even get PT. Colorado Gatorade player of the year.
I don’t think it materially changes your valid points, but this is incorrect. She scored 55 points this past season, including an 18-point outburst where she was 6-10 from the 3. I agree with your take, though. She’s probably after more time on the court. Stanford’s PG issues were well-documented this year (and at least three of their four losses were visibly attributable to that), so if she wasn’t getting on the floor this year when there was a positional need, it wasn’t happening in the future.

am I crazy to think that Warren from Texas would be an interesting pick up for UConn.........from what I know of her she has Nika's maniacal defensive intensity, and she can shoot it a little bit......

I feel like something odd was going on with her this year. Last year, she was a back up to Kiana, but I actually preferred when JVG was running the point, as I think she is very precise in her movements and passes, and she plays with a lot of energy. This year, I really expected her to start and take over the position. She didn't play at all to start the season. Finally got put in and had a big game against Arizona and then didn't really see the floor again. So, it was all a bit inexplicable to me and it felt like perhaps more was going on behinds the scenes. Could be me speculating, but that is how it felt. Like she was in Tara's doghouse or something. Anyways, I think she will be a valuable asset to any team and think she can do great things on the court with her remaining two years.

She was 1-7 in 2 point shots. Look it up. It's such a small sample size it is largely irrelevant but she didn't put up many 2 point shots even though she averaged 8 minutes of PT. She made mainly 3 pointers.

Who else besides Warren do you think would be interested in coming to UConn knowing that it would be in a “back-up” role.

Impossible to know what the portal players are willing to do...........ask yourself why did they leave in the first place? I assume it's usually about lack of playing time or they didn't like the way they were being used when on the floor, an actual coaching change, a coach they didn't get along with, homesickness or simply being tired of losing..........which one of those kids do you want?;):)

 Your not necessarily crazy because of this particular thought, it is some of your other ideas which might have already "fully" qualify you as such.

Players enter the portal for all of the reasons you’ve mentioned and more. I want the player that: 1. Has elite level skills and is very aggressive. 2. Has enough bb IQ and intellect to learn Geno’s system quickly enabling her to play right away and complement the other players on the floor. 3. Has a high energy level who shows up for every game and is consistent on both ends of the court (no magicians). 4. Does not like losing and is willing to do “whatever” the coaches need/ask her to do, including coming off the bench. 5. Is a great teammate, and most of all WANTS/WILL come to UConn if offered. Is that asking too much?

Uhhhhhhhhhh........with very rare exception I think so......:(

Ah, my apologies. I misinterpreted that to mean that she only made one bucket all year (and it wasn’t a three-pointer). I agree with what you’re saying. It’s easy for a defense to figure a player out if their shots are always coming from one area.

Not just nonproducers, just trading up. It is a new world. Doesn't mean we have to like it. Now long ago I gave up the Yankees when they became a revolving door. They got so good at the revolving part that they forgot how to play quality baseball.
Yup! Haven't watched baseball in years. Why is it that they are bigger, stronger (maybe), hothoused, and can't hit the ball as far, or complete a game. Not that there aren't great players, there are. I would rather watch a rerun of Gibson, Marchal or Seaver.
Now to hoop. the women's game is much more like the 80's Celtics or Lakers in style of play. The attitude is hungry. I love this about the women's game in general.
I hope that someday all of this balances out for the good of all.

Van Gytenbeek notes in this interview that she was telling Fran “You gotta come [to Stanford].”

Even though Van Gytenbeek is younger, I believe she committed before Prechtel and Belibi.

I doubt she was a deciding factor at all, but I’d definitely think she reached out to recruit Betts and Belibi.

Yes, I did note in post #26 that I found a connection of the three.

I didn’t know her history. That’s rough. However I still would love to see her transfer to UConn versus Maryland or Notre Dame. I’m sure Geno could find good minutes for her and she could win another championship at a second school. How many basketball players can say that? As a Gatorade player of the year, she must have other talents other than the three?
She can shoot! Definitely would get more pt this year. Must be unhappy there in general.

Unfortunately I think Jana and her parents will be looking for her to have way more playing time that Geno will never guarantee. Too bad, another pass first player like Paige, a great three point shooter, and a nice kid, seems like she would fit in perfectly. She could help free up Paige to shoot more, and draw some attention away from Paige, Azzi and Caroline. I’d love to see her transfer to UConn, but unlikely. I bet Brenda Frese has already has her on speed dial, arranged for a visit, if she hasn’t already signed her up!
