I hate Duke basketball as much as the next guy but I would not compare the academics of those 2 schools. Duke is an elite academic university up there with Ivies. Miami is a very good school but the selectivity of admissions is very low because of its location and appeal to Northeastern kids. Other than that its academics are nothing like the top tier schools. I've discussed this with people who have gone there recently. It's a very good school but nothing close to elite. Not that U.S. News and World Report university rankings are the be all end all, but they have Miami rated #63 behind schools you would not associate with elite academics. Duke is #6, ahead of most of the Ivies.
I'm assuming you guys know this, but these kids aren't deciding where to play basketball based on whether a school is a Mckinsey target or not lol

Miami vs dook. Two southern private schools filled with rich northeast kids who couldn't get in to better schools.

You gotta think anyone kid with a choice between those two picks Miami. Sure, dook is more highly rated but the U is still a damn good degree.
I know ya’ll hate Duke, but their acceptance rate is less than 5%.

Correct. I was just responding to a post about comparing the academics of both schools that didn't mention basketball at all.

I find it funny coaches constantly complain about the portal and how out of hand it has gotten and then you have guys like schiano actively participating in a lawsuit that would remove eligibility limits.

Same thing with Tennessee, sued to remove any NIL limitations with recuits for Nico and are now claiming no one is too big for their program like they didn't go to bat for him, ignoring the potential consequences on the sport

Darrion Williams still in play? Saw an interesting tweet just now…

There’s nothing on that front other than him and Luke following each other on Instagram. One can hope he’s in play if Karaban leaves.

My guess is if his son does well at Xavier he will be the next St. John’s coach. He will still have access to Mike Resople $$$$ for the best transfers money can buy.
IIRC. Rick P has mentioned before he would like his son to succeed him at StJ as coach. This was said before the X job came up but I still think its viable as long as Rick leaves under positive circumstances.

Would be shocked if we drop the kind of bag Williams has coming his way on one player
Why not? If Alex leaves and we replace him with Williams we wouldn’t need to spend money on any additional players, the rotational pieces of the roster would be set. We need to spend the NIL money that would be going to Alex anyways.

Having said that, TT was listed as one of the 10 schools with $10mill in NIL and we were one of the schools in the 8-10 range so I’d be surprised if we could outbid TT.

I believe Williams is testing NBA waters before getting more serious about finding a CBB home.

Hey I’d be all for it. Willams would fit incredibly with what we have. I just expect BYU to drive his price tag through the roof - like 2x+ of what karaban would cost us

That sounds like a bridge too far.

Saw that also. Article said he's a 2nd rounder at best. But if Alex is leaving then UConn can't afford to wait for an answer until Williams is done with the NBA process.

Isn’t Alex going thru the same process? Alex might not make his decision until the same time as Williams or maybe even after. Option A is Alex stays. Option B could be Williams. But we need an option C incase Williams goes pro or transfers somewhere else because we’re waiting on Alex. Prob also need an option D incase option C transfers somewhere else while we’re waiting on Alex and Williams.

Hypothetical- what does staff tell Alex if he hasn’t made up his mind yet and Williams withdraws from the draft and says he wants to commit?

This kid is crazy to think he deserves that.

Thought he had a do not contact tag implying he knew where he was going. Glad it’s not UF since they already got their PG.
