Tourney - Round 3

So an easy prediction day. The teams most people predicted would win; actually won.
Well it wasn't that easy for me since I was 2 & 2 since I picked UNC (not realizing how completely awful they would play) and NC State (they at least came close).
There are plenty of bigs in college basketball who wouldn't convert 94% of their shot attempts if facing single coverage. That performance by Lauren Betts was--insane!
Audi Crooks comes to mind but Betts also had the benefit of under sized competition and entry passes that when caught were in very good locations. I can't recall if her 4 turnovers were her fault or not but if so maybe she was 15 of 20, or 75% which is still excellent.

The first two games tomorrow are on ESPN 3? That sounds like a crappy channel. That sounds like a parody channel from Dodgeball.
The listing I see is "ABC/ESPN+/Disney+". The ESPN+ part is likely ESPN3 which is one of a family of stations used when there are multiple ACC & SEC games being broadcast. But it is also on the main broadcast channel of ABC.
What do we think point spread will be for UCLA-LSU? I'd guess UCLA by 3.5
UCLA favored by 1.5 I think.

While I do love it with ESPN brings back the Ocho shows, I don't know where you're seeing ESPN3. I see ABC and ESPN+.

Has parity finally arrived to WBB? At least at the Sweet 16 level that may be the case.

Nothing looked easy for anyone yesterday, including UCLA & SC, who we might have expected to make quick work of MD & MS respectively. I don’t anticipate any blowouts in today’s games either. I’m hoping I’m wrong about that, specifically with regards to the Huskies.

Betts was on the sideline saying she was tired and couldn’t breathe. If a team runs on them, this could spell trouble

Hmmm. How odd. Spokane is at about 2,000’ above sea level. Is that enough to cause this problem? Shouldn’t a D1 starter be able to run at least a little bit?

Betts is a big girl who’s actually done a great job improving her level of fitness. Last night she played 31 minutes, scoring 31 points on 15/16 shooting, to go along with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. I don’t think I would rely on a strategy against UCLA that was based on tiring Betts out.

Show me a game against a P4 where Audi Crooks shot 94% from the field. I'll wait.

That’s not what I’m sayin. But see above post.

Is it just me, or could she pass for Olivia Miles little sister
Especially when she rocked the goggles last year.

I didn’t have an issue with Zoe so much. My issue was where were the seniors?

Zoe was the only one keeping State in it down the stretch. She consistently got in the paint at will. Took contact and finished. She wasn’t deterred by LSUs physicality or the way the refs let the game be played. I saw a lot of frustration from all 3 seniors at what they perceived as fouls and the physical nature of the game.

Zoe had a steal and got fouled by Johnson with 5:04 remaining. State got 1 stop the rest the game. 5 straight minutes and only 1 empty possession from LSU. The game was lost on the boards and defense. State had no answer for Morrow.

Tilda was a great story this year, this ain’t her game though. Bruising physical play isn’t for her (yet at least). Awou is built for it, but too raw and not mentally ready for that. Hayes has that dawg in her to handle it but she’s undersized to go against Morrow. Rivers has the length and athleticism but isn’t as strong to keep positioning.

Morrow was the game. She dominated. 30 and 19. Williams - meh she was fine. Inefficient. Came up big at times for sure but not the story. Johnson, not impressed. States guards can play with anyone. State didn’t have the front court to match. Final four guard play. Second round post play. It’s a shame but that was the deal and State ran into one of the few teams that could exploit that.

I really believe UCLA could have been had. LSU was not a team I wanted any part of.

I was disappointed for the seniors. It’s a special group. On and off the court they have been a joy to watch and see develop and become leaders and fantastic players and people, great representatives of the university. I’m going to miss them quite a bit.

I will say it was surprising to see James not involved down the stretch. They did try and get her the ball in the final few plays out of time outs but she couldn’t shake free and Cox had a moving screen once. But I don’t fault Zoe. She had a wide open lay up on one it looked like and just an outstanding block by LSu and a save to keep the ball in play. The next time she appeared to have a wide open mid range jumper and Smith made one heck of a close out and got a finger tip on the ball to alter it. Neither shot was forced or out of line imo. Sometimes the other team makes plays. Credit to LSU. Morrow was the best player on the court. They made the plays to get the win.

Stings as a fan and sucks not to have more games to watch or this trio. But that’s basketball.

Dag so Stanford had Cameron Brink, Kiki I, Lauren Betts and Haley Jones and lost to Old Miss in the second round a couple years ago. Am i misremembering this. That's March but also kinda crazy in retrospect. Lauren Betts has really silenced a lot of doubters and has been a great addition to UCLA. I mean she's really been great for women's college basketball as a whole, just another big time player to follow. Anyways I got the LSU game wrong cuz I thought LSU hasn't been all that great in close games this year. I like Morrow but there's a inefficiency to her game sometimes that's hard to trust. But much respect to her and the team yesterday. Really good win.

The higher seeds still ended up winning anyway.

The Duke-South Carolina game should be interesting. Both teams are extremely good defensive teams. For Duke to win, they'll have to contain Fulwiley.

It'll prob be a close game. LSU is flawed but they aren't gonna get run out the building by any team IMO

UCLA should be favored, LSU nor majority of the rest of the country really have a true answer for Betts but if LSU's trio get hot then watch out. LSU somehow beat NC St despite getting zero production from Flaujae and Williams despite some gaudy stats was truthfully very mediocre. And the emergence of Sa'myah Smith has been something LSU has been missing all year

UCLA last year fell in love with the 3 ball too much vs LSU. If LSU collapses it'll be interesting to see if they continue to feed betts or fall back in love with the 3 ball again. Should be a fun game.

Also looking forward to SC and Duke. Some interesting matchups and it'll be a test to see where duke gets their offense from

Maybe, but if that's the case, they have Barker and Dujalic to give her more time to catch her breath if needed.

I only watched the first half but she’s the only player that did anything. She told her coach she was tired and couldn’t breathe. Yet she played 31 minutes. Don’t think Coach thinks that

I'm not clear on the point you're trying to make here. Should this be a concern or not?

Personally, I don't think that one clip is a huge thing. Ole Miss was physical on her and she figured out how to recover.

My response noted that Coach Close could use Dugalic or Barker to give her more time to rest if needed. It's an option if it's an issue tomorrow.

Ankle? No problemo says Miles as she dazzles coming out from the half. Irish defense leads to offense.

Announcers said Van Lith has one more post season appearance than Paige and I guess in her 5 years - 170+ games.
