Tough Listen

For part of the commentary, it seemed a bit sluggish, however in thinking about it today, I'm wondering if CP was being measured in her choice of words, knowing that any mis-speak would be dissected ad nauseam by everyone. There are many things that I both like and dislike about some WBB announcers, and the only one that I truly dislike is Antonelli, as she's comes off as the expert and savior of WBB.

I find Candace’s voice mellifluous.

If you want a tough listen, try something like D Trad That’s What by Cecil Taylor (a slanted avant-garde take on traditional jazz) or, closer to home, Weasels Ripped My Flesh by Frank Zappa and the Mothers.

Candace is a professional and acted professionally, as expected. Whether she likes Geno or not I think she admires what he and UConn women’s basketball have accomplished and the positive impact it has had on the sport.

I do agree with those that have suggested the sound crew needed to raise her volume.

My pet peeve about broadcast crews is when a foul or something else happens on the court and they provide no details. In many cases it is not readily apparent what transpired or who a foul was on. Last nights crew was actually better than most at proving details although they did miss some.

I dunno, maybe it was because the game was, well, boring?
This is a great point. Contrast how the announcers handled the blow out in the men's Xavier game in the 2nd half. I had to turn the audio off because they were so far afield of the game that it was a total (negative) distraction. Candace handled a "boring game" beautifully.

BRS24, I completely agree regarding Antonelli. She spends a lot of her time discussing what a particular team "should do" or "must do", which is always unseemly and often goofy.

Most of the time her opinion is to get the ball in the hands of the team's best player, and let that player do her thing, regardless of how the team is playing as a unit.

It chaffs me to hear her say, " what {insert HC name} needs to do is....." to the point I almost always mute the sound. Gimme a break, DA.

Both will be good given more time but today are early in their TV/radio careers.
There are so many more channels that air games, which means there are many more women and men hired to broadcast them. That's a good thing. But it also means that for myself, when I watch games I sometimes am listening to broadcasters who I haven't heard before.

This season I have seen two games that Renee has worked on, a first, and our last game was the first time I've heard Candace court-side, though I have heard her on and off as an after-the-game analyst.

I'm wondering if anyone happens to know how long these two women have been working as color commentators. For the record, I'm not bothered by either one but I prefer Candace's style.

Most people do mellow with time over this sort of thing. As one ages and experiences more of life, they realize that a lot of stuff that used to be a part of our twenties and thirties just really isn't all that important.
True, by some reports Geno has mellowed and become a big soft cuddly teddy bear.

My initial reaction to seeing Candace doing the game UGH. I was completely surprised with the openng remarks/synopsis.

She is knowledgeable of the game and does her analysis of the teams before game time. Her voice has a great tenor for the game. Hope to hear her more.

I also enjoy our own Renee Montgomery. Renee knows the game and communicates that in a bubbly way. Renee was doing games about 5 years ago. We saw her doijg a USF game when we were there.

I am also in the camp of "I can't stand Debbie Antonelle."

Antonelli is like the retired Johnny Miller of golf, but not as bad.

I heard Nell Fortner the other night doing the color commentary. I forgot which game. I like her voice. She’s focused on the game, has good insights but doesn’t over do it.

I find Renee distracting and loud. She needs to learn that less can be more and that she isn't being paid by the word. Candace, who I dislike, actually was fine.

I’ll probably be a pariah for saying this but I never understood the angst toward TENN now or in the past. Both TENN and UCONN have had great players and have or had great coaches. The rivalry is uber competitive and it’s natural to have some hard feelings. But it’s difficult to understand how one cannot respect each others players, coaches and overall program.

We are not reliving everything that happened between the two programs. Let’s move on
