After a slow start against the Hall on Sunday, first it was Azzi and then it was Blanca and then it was Sarah and a then it was a 40 point win. All along though, it was our vise like defense that has become the trademark of this team. The one day rest in between with a bus ride and not enough sleep were factors but let's look beyond that for our notes for this game. Let's also look beyond the first game against Xavier and remember it's about how we play, not who we play. So here are my top 3 things:
1) Whether Serah is 100% or not, I would like to see extended minutes for Jana. This will be a good game for her to dominate, restore confidence, and keep the upward movement going. She only had 4 points against the Hall, but they were two layups that required moves and footwork she did not have last year.
2) More minutes for Ayanna also. She is really coming along and there is no substitute for power underneath.
3) The zone offense needs to be refined. On one occasion against the Hall, with Blanca on the high post she received it, turned and Sarah was on the baseline and got the pass. That is the weakness in the 2-3. Let's see more precise dissection of the zone like that and not just rely on 3s.
Let's not look ahead to next Sunday rather but focus on the game in front of us. What are yours?
