Top 3 Things You Want To See Tuesday, November 4th, at 5:30 pm Against Louisville. Game is on ESPN.

It's the first game of the season, so there's no need to rush a decision about the 8, 9 and 10 positions. That will work itself out with a little more time and a few more games. It's November and we've a long way to go.

1). A decisive win with everyone getting minutes, contributing and having fun.
2). Everyone staying healthy

1. a WIN
2. Blanca and K9 settling in.
3. as mentioned above: Azzi, Sarah, and
Serah breaking the half century mark... (at least!)

I totally disagree with this fixation on a core team with substitutions. He is going to play combinations, trick defenses, spread offenses, and crazy presses. It's like a general in a battle having an extra division. They don't get coffee and cake and sit it out.

Another aspect of trying multiple combinations and approaches is covering being able to anticipate future "what ifs" (like contingencies for injuries, individual slumps and different approaches, at times, for different teams).
It's also a perk of having some many talented and (knock wood) healthy players.

Totally. Against a smaller team, you pound it underneath to Serah, Sarah ,Jana and Ice or a combination thereof. Like Geno says, a "throw me the ball I'm in position" offense. Against a slower team, you use KK, Kayleigh, Blanca, Ash ,Azzi, and Sarah as part of a speed team and maybe Kelis too. He is signaling that he is looking for combinations due to our flexibility and jokingly that he has to learn how to substitute again. It's potentially a great team. I thought last year's was for sure not in December or even February before the SC game. That is why I can't wait to see the finished product.

1 - I'm with others who mention the PG pool, I think that might be the most interesting group of players this season in terms of development and upside. I'm counting these comments as under this one point. 😁 Fisher looks to have a high upside, how high can she climb as the season goes on, how will she look against this top tier competition. K9, the talent and experience are there, will she start to really put things together Tuesday night, what can she contribute offensively? And KK, will we start to see a more evolved/mature offensive skillset?

2 - Can Allie maintain her recent form against a more competitive team.

3 - Blancaaaaaaa, can she bring the same rim pressure against better competition, progress in terms of her decision making/processing.

Please re-read what I posted. I'm pretty sure you have misread it or at least the meaning behind it? I have been following Geno's coaching for 30 years and believe he will eventually settle in with a "core". I can't recall a year when he didn't, but this team has many talented players that goes much deeper than 10. So, I agree with you that he will most likely use different combinations of players (inside and outside his "core") depending upon the various needs throughout a game. This will definitely be a good way of keeping more players happy.

I think you misunderstood me as well. I "liked" your original post and I was actually supporting it but I see a different dimension to this team in "combinations" that Geno never had the luxury to use before. Because he is so adaptable, proven by what he does each year with different players, I think he will adapt to the team he has and coach the team he has. So no, I don't see a per se "core" which includes 3-4 players substituting in and out and 6-7 players only getting in at the end of the game with the offense and defense staying the same. I see a pressing combination, a trapping combination, a big pound it inside combination, a speed combination, a shoot the lights out combination, and others with defenses and offenses to match. These combinations are not necessarily 5 players either. He has actually said as much in an oblique way in a most recent interview. In short, we have never seen a team like this, so why assume he will not think outside the box? Last year he did with "small ball" and we won a NC in record fashion.

1 Sarah with a double-double
2 Serah with a double-double
3 Ash with a double-double

Yes, I want a triple double

But mainly I want to see a great big smile on Caroline’s face when she nails a 3-pointer!

Okay, I think we should leave it here for at least 10-12 games and perhaps then come back to it to see who is closer to what is happening at that time. I actually don't think we are too far apart.

UConn relentless defense
Strong and Fudd looking like the AA's and leaders of this team
Big showings from Williams and Shade

Lets not expect to much in our first game and it will be a competitive game. First game jitters. Newbies learning and adjusting and coming out of their comfort zone. Our core from last season will control the game. Our defense should control the flow of the game. Im expecting a suffocating nerve racking overwhelming defense which will get us going. Our core coming back with Serah is going to be just to much for most teams. We have a big in the middle this season which will allow our defense to take chances. We saw what our defense did to 3 number 1 seeds last season in the NCAAs. It should be even better this season.

1. There are 5 new players with 3 expected to play significant roles. A comfortable lead in games will allow all of them to get minutes and build chemistry with all of the returning players.
2. Everyone stays healthy.
3. A dominant performance to go with our preseason #1 status.

A triple-double-double. I like that. And it'd be even better if it was points-rebounds, points-blocks, and points-steals.

While we're at it, I predict Sarah will have more than one triple-double in her career.

Seeing that we all always hope for a win and no injuries I think that those are assumed. What might change for a particular game like this:
1. Dominate the game with great defense leading to explosive offense.
2. We begin to see specific combinations for things like pressure, 3 point offense, post domination.
3. All healthy players get the time they need to show their skills after the starters get their needed minutes.

Sounds good.

I know that all of you want to see minutes from everyone. But for me it’s;

22-25 minutes for Azzi, Serah and Sarah.
Not me - maybe I'm in the minority, but I want to see Geno's core 8-10 pretty much the entire game. Bring in the end of the bench the last 4 minutes, including Kelis, Carol, Gandy, and Ayanna (if we have a big enough lead). There will be plenty of blowouts to give more time to the reserves. In a big game like this, I expect to see 30+ for Azzi and Sarah.

Geno has said it, and it's been echoed here on the board - you simply can't play 14 players consistently and hope to have any kind of chemistry or cohesion. One interesting thing Geno did was to experiment with different lineup configurations, especially against BC. While it made for ugly basketball, it gave the staff a chance to see certain players grouped together.

IF he goes a core 10, I do NOT expect to see a hockey change at any time during the game. I expect he will have at least 1 starter on the floor at all times, more likely at least 2. I think his first 3 off the bench will be Kayleigh, Blanca, and (wait for it...), Allie. I think Jana continues to get limited minutes and may end up being the last player in the core 10 (I'm guessing Ice comes in before she does).

1. Fast starts in the first & Third quarters, with Azzi, Sarah, and Serah all are in the teens in scoring at the half, and are not needed for the second half - but are able to be split up to develop those coming off the bench (10 players get 15+ mins);
2. smothering defense feeds the offense;
3. all Huskies stay healthy in a 25+ point MoV over the Cards.

I think this is the third most difficult game on our schedule. I hope we are ready.

It’s almost not a “three things” game for me. I would just take a win.
