So after a tight first quarter against Ohio State, our defense locked down and we had an explosive 2nd quarter effectively taking control of the game. For those of us with painful memories of the Sweet 16 loss, it was very satisfying.

Michigan is a very good team with a recent blowout win over Notre Dame that Geno said he was surprised by. He also said that Michigan will be our toughest test yet by far. So here are my top 3 things:

1) No slow start either on defense or offense with Azzi leading the way in the first quarter.

2) Continue to establish a low post game with Serah, Sarah and Jana.

3) Press, press, run, run. Leave no doubt.

This game will tell us a lot. Remember, it's a process. Do you have any?

Thanks God it is in FOX so we people not live in CT, can watch...
I don't live in CT and haven't missed a game ever since SNY took over. Oh wait, I missed the games on FloHoops.
But this topic is for a different thread.

Due to Michigan's absolute smackdown of ND over the weekend, this has turned into a top 10 matchup, great for us.
  • Solid and convincing win leaving no doubt. Step on the gas and do not let up for 40 minutes. This means...
  • Shorten the rotation. If that means Azzi and Sarah play 38, so be it. This is not a game to experiment with those outside the core 8 or so unless we are up 30. I'd like to see solid minutes for Jana, but I suspect it will be more of Kayleigh, Blanca and Allie.
  • Keep the players fresh - I'd like to see intense defense every possession for the entire game.

1. Healthy Azzi with no sniffles and firing on all cylinders from the start.
2. Serah do exactly what she did in 14 minutes against Ohio State but extend it to 20 minutes so 7/10 from the field
3. Love to see a 50/40/90 repeat as a team.

Michigan flies around like bees on a hive and throw in some height therefore, keep pressure on the smalls, good rotation of all players, well maybe not Sarah. A hot shooting night from our snipers.

1. Get K9 out of the corner, and out handling the ball
2. The BIGS keep dominating inside
3. More playing time for Caroline
Yes #1, I noticed that also. She is lost there. She creates with the ball up top, so give it to her.

1. Will Michigan double or triple Sarah like they did Hidalgo
2. Ash a bit better than last outing
3. Can Blanca duplicate her last performance
Coach Barnes-Arico knows Coach Auriemma well from her days when she coached St. John's to think that approach will work, especially when there's film available. Not to mention, does she want to risk leaving players like Fudd, Arnold, etc. with an advantage?

The objectives I want to see every game are incremental improvements in various aspects of offense and defense. Focusing on offensive improvement, let's see:

1. More minutes for Blanca "50-40-90" Q, but with fewer TOs.
2. Better FG% shooting by three of the four worst on the team: Ash (34.%), K9 (43.8%) and Jana (46.7%).
3. More, and more accurate, post feeds to Serah and Jana in the low paint.

Michigan plays an attacking style of basketball. Much of their scoring vs. Notre Dame happened in transition. They drive to the basket, dish and take quick shots. So here are my thoughts.
1. Play lock down defense full court and slow down their guards. Limit their possessions with strong rebounding down low where we will have a size advantage.
2. Spread the floor on offense and take a lot of 3s.
3. Drive to the basket and feed the bigs to score in the paint.

We have a deeper bench so we need to take advantage of that.
