But that is what I mean. They get to the Sweet 16. The defense is strong and they are so consistent they don't get knocked out in the first weekend. I also see it as a low ceiling team that will be challenged once in the Sweet 16.Eh, kind of. They've been a 1 seed the last 3 years and lost in the Sweet 16 twice. To #5 seed Miami in 2023 and to #4 seed Duke in 2024.
Different type of Houston team this year, much better team offensively. Fairly balanced at a 9 in offense and 5 in defense in KP, not the defensive juggernaut of year's past. But that is what I mean. You can’t compare top ten teams using records against Quads. You’re pretending that us winning against Illinois and Florida neutral and at Kansas aren’t more important than winning a road game at Creghton (if they stay on the right side of the line). Quad records at the top are a starting point at looking at records. That is all they are. While I agree they don't have the super high end games the other three have had so far:
Houston
Q1 - 7-2
Q2 - 8-0
UConn
Q1 - 6-2
Q2 - 7-0
Duke
Q1 - 10-2
Q2 - 5-0
Zona
Q1 - 9-2
Q2 - 6-0
And in Kenpom they stand at 4th. They are in the conversation with the other three, right now. Their next three are huge though @ ISU, Zona @ KU.
Quad wins matter at the margins, I think. Bubble teams, 8 or 9 seed. That sort of thing. It give the committee an excuse to include or not include someone as an at large. That’s about it. You want to give a bid to a mediocre B10 team, wowsah they had 2 quad 1 wins. You want to keep a good Mid-major out? Oh look, they only had 2 quad 1 wins. You can’t compare top ten teams using records against Quads.
