There's no way we're a better team without a healthy Hass.

He averaged 10 ppg, 7.2 assists, 1.9 turnovers, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals against non cupcakes this season until the recent knee injury. Plus he is one of our two vocal leaders on the team with Liam, he's won two national championships, and he's one of the only guy's on the team who plays tough defense.

What are people even talking about in this thread?

I think you’re missing the point - no one said better without him available but if we can get a lineup humming with Liam at Point F, it creates mismatch issues. This team which has a ceiling with Hassan running PG big minutes, becomes a unique mismatch challenge. That SubbaBub post nailed it.

This team was humming with a healthy Hass and a healthy Liam in the starting lineup before their injuries. In no way are we better without Hass out there and in no way do we have a lower ceiling with a healthy Hass playing point.

Hass was damn good this season when healthy.

When you have the best player on the court (Liam), the best coach (Hurley), the best shooter (Solo), and three rotational pieces (Alex, Hass, Samson) with 2 rings a piece you’re going to have a chance to win every game.

Im confident that if we can avoid Bama, Auburn and Houston we can make a run.

He’s a limited scoring threat. Im a big fan of Hass. I just think this team presents a dimension with him in limited minutes off the bench if we can get this going.

Hmmm. UConn as an underdog, like they recently were at Marquette and at Creighton, is 2-0. Favorite at home against St John', they lost. UConn is a very good team that will be under seeded and likely an underdog throughout the tourney. Nothing like the defending 2 in a row national champion playing with house money.

.-.
With Hass what people don’t realize is the impact it has on Samson and even AK. If those 7 assists, 4-5 were to Samson/AK on slips and rolls. Main reason Samson is shooting 76% is cause of Hass. Sure Liam is more of a scoring threat and can initiate offense. But can he get the 8-10 assist/rim points from our 5?

Yikes this aged poorly

After this pitiful display we are probably max’d out at the 8-9 game with a 10 or play in possible. Yup huge trouble on the horizon. Best player was ok but not the same as last game for sure, best shooter also turned it over a lot and didn’t need to dribble through a double team because the 10 second clock was NOT in play just get fouled. And the best coach ever hasn’t figured out how his team can safely in bound the ball. None of those add up well.

Numbers of losses in our Championship seasons:
1999-2,
2004-6,
2011-9,
2014-8,
2023-8
2024-3

2025-8 so far. (so we're in the ballpark with a strong finish)

The 2011 roster was talented but very young, with major in season growing pains, and 2023 had a great roster, but a bad stretch in January, so for sake of comparisons I looked at 2014.

The 2014 roster (of the 8 or 9 loss teams) seemed most equivalent talent-wise to 2025 so I like our chances, IF:
-IM can score at least 38 points per game :rolleyes:;
-SJ and TR can combine for more than 4 points and 5 rebounds per game (Phil Nolan and Amidah Brimah combined for 0 points and 5 rebounds in 32 minutes against Kentucky in 2014);
-Solo's wrist completely heals and he gets back in the 3 point groove while building on his "new ability" to drive for scores;
-AK keeps finding ways to score on floaters and drives while continuing to play his all around game AND regains the fine motor skills he needs for his 24 foot off balance 3's;
-HD is fully able to play or JS keeps improving his overall game and does a "Giffey" for us in the NC game;
-AM is reborn and goes 5 for 5 on two's like "Boat" in the 2014 NC game;
-AN fully recovers from all injuries and grows into a bigger role, ala Terrence Samuels against Villanova

Crap, this is a piece of cake. Buying my FF tickets now!!!
Imagine that occurring? Stranger things are possible!

We can’t even get a shout out from EM on this criteria and we actually beat one of these two

The Diarra hate on this board is head scratching. The dude was an absolute stud for us the first half of the season and was one of the nation’s leaders in assist/turnover. Having a point guard that puts up 8-10 assists per game and is good for 8-10 points in the flow of the offense is something that would get him a start on most teams in the country.
Yup, he was good when not injured but it’s not hate to point out he shouldn’t be starting when that injured. I don’t know what happened to his perimeter shot either, maybe it’s the injury too.
The problem is that we have no quality point guard besides him and that means Hurley will play him injured, and he was getting beat on drives last game which usually doesn’t happen.
I certainly appreciate all he does or tries to do for the team, just wish he had help.

When it comes to Diarra, I love the guy and am extremely happy he is on our team but he is not a player who can be the engine of the offense for 40 minutes
Nor is he a real PG.

Remember the last offensive option from last years team just played in the NBA all-star game. This is not the same team, doesn't mean they can't win they're just not bulletproof. Hurley needs to do a better job on inbounding and reducing turnovers.

He's improved the team on defense and committing fewer fouls. With Liam and AK hitting shots we win most of these last games. The TO thing will kill us against any team capable of exploiting it. It starts there.
