Three reasons we lost

1. Our press break was awful: Just two guards passing the ball back and forth up the length of the court. Absolutely no adjustment by Hurley - it killed the shot clock most of the game. We created ZERO offense off the press for the first 30 minutes and let them bully us

2. Doubling the post and miscommunication on defense: Specifically in the first half, we had multiple defensive lapses where we either ball watched, doubled the post, or didn’t communicate switches leading to wide open three after three. Whaley and Martin were the worst offenders

3. Substitution patterns and second half lineups: Hurley has an obsession with starting the beginning of game starters at the start of the second half, no matter how poorly they’re playing. Cole was the lone bright spot in the first half, and Hurley let him get cold by sitting him on the bench the first four minutes of the half. Polley offers nothing when he can’t shoot, but we stuck with him for a stretch at the start of the half, and at the end, when he was offering poor shooting and AWFUL defense on the white kid who was their PF

At the end of the day, without Bouk or Akok, we’re role players (save Sanogo and Jackson, in due time) and mid-major transfers. That can get it done if you have the coaching and game planning to boot, but we haven’t the last few games and it’s painfully obvious

The team is unprepared, has zero offensive schemes and actually gave up at the end
TERRIBLE job by Hurley and company
It's time Dan Hurley understands that coaching in the big boy leagues is deeper that recruiting, talking big and collecting a HUGE check

I am not so sure Akok is the answer. In fact, nothing personnel but he shouldn't even being talked about. Looks like he may not play all year. Just a guess. He should be burning up the hardwood by now.

Polley

There was a play in which Polley trailed the white kid around a back screen and the kid got a layup. Basketball 101 is that you do not trail on that play, but rather p;lay the passing lane.
Another dumb play by Polley was in the first half he had the ball just shy of the half court line, took 2 dribbles to go over the half court line into the area where you have the sideline and the half court line and picked the ball up. The worst place possible to go with the ball.

Don't often agree w you, but you are spot on here. The trends are very concerning. It really seems like Hurley has become clueless in game. Three games in a row now where we let the other team completely impose their style of play on us with no adjustments, no reaction, no plan. We just took it.

THAT is a very worrisome sign of bad coaching.

There were a lot of factors that contributed to the loss, but this is really it. You can't have a worse game than Tyler played today. And for all he did wrong, if he hit the one wide open three to tie the game with about 4 minutes left, we still might have won. But he didn't defend, kept shooting when he couldn't hit anything, and didn't contribute anything else.

Good young man, but he didn't have it today.

This. And then to top it off they’d run another 7 or 8 seconds off the clock with some aimless passes 30 ft from the hoop or by running the weave 5+ feet beyond the 3 pt line. End result was that on many possessions there were only 13 or 14 seconds left on the shot clock before they got within even 5 ft of the 3 point line, let alone into whatever offense they were “running”.

It's frustrating for that press of their to eat half our offensive possession and then see Sanogo or Whaley standing by themselves in no mans land at the top of the key with the ball in their hands and 10 seconds on the shot clock.

Yup, same crappy offense with no purpose until the clock is under 10 seconds. Players not moving other than rotating at the top of the arc and running useless high screens pulling our big men out. Sorry to say Dan Hurley is at least 50% of the problem. Very disappointed by a total sheet show.

Have you guys watched games? We run the same offense with the press as without. Walk the ball up. Pass around the perimeter then with 8 seconds left take a wild shot.

Can anybody surprise the defense one Fckg time during the weave and take it to the hole . Turn the corner and go. We do not put enough pressure on the defense close to the rim.As mentioned above I would like to see Jackson get more assertive in this area.

It’s so confusing. Some games we get away from the weave and the offense looks better only to run the weave the entirety of the next game and the offense sucks again. Are we watching film?

It’s so confusing. Some games we get away from the weave and the offense looks better only to run the weave the entirety of the next game and the offense sucks again. Are we watching film?

The important thing is, that if the weave is your main offense, you won’t score much. Couple that with everyone being deathly afraid of making a move to the hoop, you have disaster.

Regarding our inability / lack of confidence to break down defenders in their press: not to throw salt on the wounds, but Gilbert went for an efficient 17 points and 3/4 on treys tonight. Could have used him.

OMG, really??? He’s shooting 32% for the season, 26% from 3. Way to pick out his best game and extrapolate. I think he had his chance here to prove his wares.
