Three first-teamers!

Brown was quite an impressive force for Baylor and improved significantly during the year - against MSS she was unstoppable, but Baylor had trouble getting her the ball in the later stages of the game - it seemed every time they did, she scored easily against a pretty good front line as we just found out.
Agree but Jones was impressive all season never had to "improve significantly".

They do seem to have recovered their smiles and playful joy pretty quickly, even if it is only for a few hours.
Young people don't dwell on things very long, and that's probably a good thing, plus I'll bet that shortly after the end of the game, all the returning Huskies made a commitment to each other to write a different ending to next season.

No players from Mississippi State. Perhaps they are on the AA overachievers team.[/QUOTE]

I was going by the list on the board. But for me AA means 1st team AA.

Interesting, that the team that will be assembled in the Fall will include 3 All Americans and one Honorable mention. This is a far cry from what was assembled in the Fall of 2016. Nice way to start the season including the talent that practiced with them this year and the incoming Freshman Class.
Actually, it's 3 All-Americans and 2 Honorable Mentions. Kia Nurse was AP Honorable Mention in 2017. Azura Stevens was AP Honorable Mention in 2016. I think it's safe to say that the team will be loaded.

Looking at some recent history of WBCA All-Americans:

2017 Gabby, Lou, and Napheesa
2016 Stewie, Moriah, and Morgan
2015 Stewie, Moriah, and Kaleena
2014 Stewie, Stefanie, and Bria
2013 Kaleena and Stefanie
2012 Bria
2011 Maya
2010 Maya and Tina
2009 Maya, Tina, and Renee
2008 Maya and Renee

So, in the 10-year span since the great Maya Moore showed up on campus, we have had 23 selections of 12 different players, at least 1 in every year, and 3 players on 5 different occasions. Outstanding!

Are my eyes deceiving me, or did Alexis Jones not even make Honorable Mention?

Other omissions that come to mind: both Spencer and Wilson of NC State, both Motley and Thomas of Miami.

Interesting to note that in this tournament Miss State will have faced 7 of the ten AAs - they have already vanquished 6 of them and as the tournament was seeded the maximum possible for them to face was 7 - they would only see Uconn (3) or MD (1) and they got Uconn, and they could only have faced ND or SC or OSUe coming from the other side in the final.

Uconn on the other hand did not face any, and the maximum they could have faced was 4 of 7 non-Uconn AAs.

Bridgeport had 4 AAs, OKC had three, Lexington had 2, and Stockton had 1

This season joins 2008 as recent seasons with at least 2 All-Americans but no title. Another thing those two teams have in common is not having the country's best player.

Further back, there's 1997, with Nykesha and Kara, and 1996, with Jen and Kara. Those were teams with POYs on them, although 1997 had Shea's injury, too.

2001, despite all of the talent, had just one All-American -- Sveta.

Someone else mentioned that the WBCA 1st team AA honors may have taken some of the sting out of the loss for Gabby, Lou & Pheesa, and from the photo of the 3 of them smiling and holding their awards, I would have to agree.

It also occurred to me that the AA honors, along with Gabby's NDPOY and Geno's COY took a little of the sting away for all of us as well. I know I feel better, particularly when I contemplate next season.

As Geno said "its not if but when we loose." He also said that this team neither got too high or too low. Nothing seemed to bother them for a long period of time. So not really surprised the three were smiles and having a little fun.

It's pretty crazy that Morgan was the only one that wasn't an All-American at least twice in that span through 2016, and all three players this year still have a chance to at least be two-time All Americans.

Without the injury, Morgan almost certainly would have been a 1st team AA on multiple occasions.
