I thought this was masterful

Conference affiliation in basketball appears to have a less of an impact ... The primary impact seems to be at Selection time in that an average P5 team would be selected before a good, but, not great non P5 team.

Doesn’t that mean conference affiliation is very impactful in basketball?

That said, the AAC has proven to be a good all-sports league (football, basketball, and baseball) and trending up.

Fully agree with Baseball/Softball and football - in UConn's case
But a horror for basketball (both men and women) and soccer
Good thing there isn't an AAC for field hockey and ice hockey

To clarify, a G5 school, say UConn, Villanova, etc., can still recruit for the best prospects, and still afford solid facilities, can put together a good OCC schedule, and can still get into the Dance, though typically as a lower seed that what the team actually deserves while the middle part of the conference had limited chance. In football, in part due to few games and a small playoff pool, a top-notch G5 has almost no chance to get into the playoffs even if they are perfect (see UCF last season), are being actively pushed out of regular season OCC games with top P5 teams, and because of such, has difficulty recruiting the best prospects.

So far, "the horror" for AAC basketball has been UConn and Memphis.

That's the caveat.

With a historically good UConn and Memphis last year, those 2, 4, and 6, seeds (for UC, WSU, and UH), have a ton more support.

And that's during a season in which SMU and UCF looked primed for NCAA runs as well before injuries decimated their rosters.

Just like Dan Hurley has been a game changer for UConn, he gives a lot more support to the conference as well.

UConn's "job" in the conference is to pull its weight in basketball. Just like Kansas has done in the Big 12 (while riding the backs of Oklahoma and Texas). Just like UNC does in the ACC, while Clemson and FSU pull the football weight. That's just how its supposed to work in a conference.

I can't believe you just suggested that hell hole. That's a cruel thing to do to a seemingly friendly OP.
It could have been the Cesspool.
