Completely agree with a couple of others, but I really feel like what Azzi does, we wont see again in our lifetime, she's so reliable i almost feel like she's been under appreciated, but all that will change this year.I think the top two competing for National Player of the Year will be Azzi and Sarah....crazy.
Yeah, as long as they don't cancel each other out and someone else slips in.So we are back to 2009 and 2010 when Maya and Tina took turns. Nothing wrong with that....
I think most POY awards are voted on in rank order by reporters, etc., i.e. you vote for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. So it’s possible for Azzi & Sara to trade 1st & 2nd place votes, where one or the other wins.Yeah, as long as they don't cancel each other out and someone else slips in.
A few days ago I felt like Sarah was a lock for NPOY. A few days later I’m thinking that Azzi has entered the discussion in a BIG way. Whatever happens, we are finally seeing the Azzi Fudd we all hoped to see 5 years ago, and she may be even better than we ever imagined. 🤩
I agree. Some of us knew all along that she was a great player but you are now seeing a stronger, more mature version of her with supreme confidence in her shot and ability to score and perhaps most importantly, she is an incredible defender.A few days ago I felt like Sarah was a lock for NPOY. It helps immensely that she is finally healthyI agree. Some of us knew all along that she was a great player but you are now seeing a stronger, more mature version of her with supreme confidence in her shot and ability to score and perhaps most importantly, she is an incredible defender.
Did you forget KML already?Completely agree with a couple of others, but I really feel like what Azzi does, we wont see again in our lifetime, she's so reliable i almost feel like she's been under appreciated, but all that will change this year.
It also helps immensely that this is her fifth year of college. She is an adult. It helps immensely that she is finally healthy
It is time to coin the "P4+1" in the national conversation. The "+1" is obviously UConn women.I’m not sure a UConn player will dominate the award all year. Opponents are tougher in the P4 conferences, making outstanding play against them more impressive to voters
I am glad the end of the year Azzi & Geno talk convinced Azzi that she "owed it to herself" to take another full year to show how she could really play.Last year Geno said that Azzi can do everything that Paige can do and people were incredulous. I think we’re starting to see what Geno sees in practice
There are three major (Wade, Wooden, and Naismith) and several minor awards (USBWA and AP, probably others), so it's possible they each win some (as Maya Moore and Tina Charles did). What are the chances (is it even possible) that they could be co-players of the year?
One issue to keep in mind. The Wade Trophy is selected by the WBCA. I believe in order to be considered, you have to win your conference POY. Highly likely that Azzi & Sarah will be 1 & 2 in some order when it comes to BEPOY.There are three major (Wade, Wooden, and Naismith) and several minor awards (USBWA and AP, probably others), so it's possible they each win some (as Maya Moore and Tina Charles did).
No, conference POY is not a requirement to win the Wade. One issue to keep in mind. The Wade Trophy is selected by the WBCA. I believe in order to be considered, you have to win your conference POY. Highly likely that Azzi & Sarah will be 1 & 2 in some order when it comes to BEPOY.
