This Saturday's (Feb 22) game is the last on SNY

Going to miss SNY like we missed CPTV. Both did great features on the program and gave us insights you couldn't get elsewhere.

Time will tell what next year's broadcast will bring
This is pretty much the way I feel CPTV spotted a niche it could fill, Understanding how much this state loves the women's basketball team. For those who could get it, the ability to see every game was terrific.

This led to SNY seeing an opportunity for it to get on more cable networks in Connecticut. in many ways, it was even better coverage and even though it is a regional network, it was accessible through the Fox Sports app, giving most people access to the games.

Now the SNY success has led more mainstream providers to realize the value there is in broadcasting the women's games, so we are getting moved to an even more mainstream broadcasting arrangement. That's a good thing in that. It means that there is more generalized acknowledgment of the value of the women's game, and particularly Connecticut women's basketball. It's hard to imagine that will be better than what we got on SNY, which was amazing for any college team, but especially for a women's college team. Still, it is something to be celebrated because it will in all likelihood giver, our team greater exposure across the nation.

Maybe SNY will now allow the re-posting of their games by MJL243 since they are no longer broadcasting UConn.
They’re still copyrighted

I did the same thing a while ago. If I remember correctly, that is how I watched the First Night festivities.
Unfortunately I use my Xbox S for most of my streaming and the last time I checked, the UConn+ app wasn't available. I guess I will have to check again.
You could always watch online at uconn+.com

Did SNY lose rights to everything UConn? I understand losing the games, but shouldn't they still be able to do pre and post game shows and specials on the UConn program? I think they would still have a pretty good following.
Usually, rights to 'special shows' go along with the regular broadcast rights.

We will all miss SNY. To me it was like old school local baseball. SNY were unabashedly homers for UConn (like Harry Caray for the Cubs. Bob Uecker, Vin Skully, Susan Waldman etc ), but they respected opponents and recognized outstanding opponent plays and results.

The high quality and consistency of the production was great too. UConn was unique in having this type of coverage available due Huskies level of play. The TV made UConn not only a CT thing, but an entire metro NYC team.

In new contract, UConn as league flagship, should get most games covered. I'm curious what will happen with 'low interest' OOC games, and with worst BE opponents. Also will new provider give any local flavor, or just focus on the league.

End of an era.:(

Try not to dance on the grave of a TV network that has been very beneficial to this program.

What are the odds that Kara gets emotional during the last post-game show?

I don't have the historical perspective that others on the boneyard have concerning UCONN'S television coverage, but I can certainly say that I'm extremely grateful to SNY for their passionate and extensive coverage of the UCONN women's basketball program. From pre and post games, to televising most games (I'm sure we all notice the drop-off in play-by-play & commentary quality when carried by other outlets - unless Rebecca is involved), to their outstanding historical retrospectives, their broadcasting has been a ever-present delight to those of us fortunate to within to reach on cable.

There were similar feelings when coverage moved from CPTV to SNY. The hour long championship recaps were particularly missed. Perhaps we’ll learn to appreciate the new outlet as well.

Please don’t use this post as an opportunity to take shots at CPTV. I know people disliked the fund raising but CPTV was the first channel in the country to show every women’s basketball game to its fans. CPTV was a huge and important part of the growth of popularity for our Huskies
Nothing but good thoughts of CPTV, they introduced me to women’s basketball and have always missed it there. I remember the woman with the glasses on there, I was very young. I still miss it.

UConn+ is a far cry from SNY.
Maybe, but UCONN+ carries coach’s shows, highlights, covers exhibitions and senior night, and often has features of various players. Even SNY didn’t offer those tidbits.

I believe it was Kara who made the point that the coverage by SNY made the fans feel closer to the players and coaches. You got to know Geno and the players so well because they discussed them individually so often and because you saw them interviewed so often. In addition, the coverage was so up to date about injuries, playing in a venue that a player lived near like yesterday, and their development and what they needed to do that it was as though you were a part of the team. For example, all of us are so well aware of what Paige has been through and Gary Apple's final thoughts about Paige having a chance to cut down the nets this year was just plain perfect.
